If you lowered the car drastically, the axles will now be at an angle, so more than likely, it's the inner cup that's making the noise.
Outer CV joints are designed for angular rotation, the inner joints are not!
When you lower your car, the tripod is repositioned further into the inner cup, so when you lock over your steering, the tripod knocks inside the cup.
So either raise the car some, or get shorter axles.
