Electrical gremlins especially if your fuel gauge hunting....
Check your wires, fuses... anything electrical where ever the mechanic was around.

Arton, yes there is a significant differance. Which is the Warranty on the vehicle, those problems you mentioned there are significant. It could be a Manufactures defect . IF it was a local you could have carried it back to the dealership and let them fight up wiht the problem. i know Massy does wood you wiht price, but some times its worth it cause look how much money you spent buying parts that did not solve the problem , and i know X trail parts arent cheap .
on the other hand, this is the chances people take when buying a used vehicle, you never know what "baggage"/problems that comes along with it.
the best thing to do right about now is take out the QR20 and put ion either a QR25 OR SR 20 turbo for the X trail and your problems should be solved.
as they say if it giving trouble then get rid of it
let us know when you slove the problem and what was the cause.

We are back to the computer, does anyone have, or knows where there is a used computer? Let me hear from you, soonest.

I agree with tintman, but if you're looking for a used computer check the motorists

Where and how do I find the motorists?
Posted: April 4th, 2008, 10:41 am

Look in the phone book , you will find the motorist. I not to sure if they could help you, but still try!
You could always check around in the bamboo...
but the way is machenic that is dealing with the problem ?

Fuel pump

Yo bro i have mine five years now and i had that problem ah ready.
The fuel pump and filter is in the gas tank and when this gets real dirty or rusted the engine fails. It will not be able to be read from a diagnostic either.
By the way I blew a head gasket about a year ago and I put bck in the thermostat cos without it the sensors in the engine tend to go berserk when running hot.
if you go on
www.nissanforums.com and go in to xtrail icon and look at sitye.type in search fuel pump in tank you should see what i'm talking about.
I changed the fuel pump cos water from our gas(bad gas) screwed it to the wall and since then I'm flying with it.
Hope this helps.

At what mileage the vehicle was when you changed the fuel pump, and also when you blew the head gasket?

I got the 2001 xtrail foreign used in 2003.I had it for about a year so in 2004 i changed the fuel pump due to our great trini gas

and then I changed the head gasket in late 2006 cos the thermostat failed.
When i got it the vehicle was doing 15000KMS.So I assume by 35000KMs is when I had the fuel pump difficulty.
The head gasket problem I think i was doing about 65000Kms.
You also have to take in to consideration that I got a 2001 Xtrail in 2003 so it had done some miles using great gas and the best diagnostic maintanence machines and mechanics.
My mechanics put back a copper sprayed gasket so that it could take our heat down here including the heat of the engine.
Since then I hav had no problems and I love the xtrail.
Hope this helps.
I have joined the
www.nissanforums.com forum and these guys are veterans in the feild of engines and parts etc of the xtrail and any nissan vehicle depending on your type whether it be skyline, sentra, blubird etc..
So take a look at what they have said and any questions you want answered.
Just the other day the Universal cross on the drive shaft was starting to go and i went to Neal and massy and they had the whole shaft for sale.
I went to a machine shop and got a 323 rear wheel drive cross to work and the machinist installed grease nipples on both of them so i can maintain the levels of grease since the original ones didnt have.
For about $700TT (the Cost of a used complete drive shaft in the bamboo) I have new Universal Joints(crosses) and my drive shaft is installed and i have the use of the 4x4 and the drive shaft is working great.
I hope this helps

Sorry for resurrecting a dinosaur, but are the problems described here (head gasket problem, etc.) common issues with this vehicle? Seriously considering one, but don't want to make a purchase I may regret.
Thanks in advance.

Simple solution put in an external water temp gauge, sensor on the engine block and this way u can see the temp of the engine. The external temperature sensors have alarm set point . The digtal gauge is crap and you dont see the little light.

heard you can use the sr20 ve and the vet
they can work with ease, the sport model xtrail came with the vet so its not a cut and fit type install
just bolt for bolt

When the QR 20 blows a gasket, you would need to shave the head and block. A friend was working on a Nissan Serina with a QR20 and the vehicle overheated, he shaved the head and it blew the gasket within a week, he then did the head and block and the problem went away.
Once you shave head and block you are good to go, but the setback is scrapping an engine to shave both sections costs, also who wants to take pistons out and put back the same old rings, same with main and rod bearings, it is best to do a full overhaul. The Rings alone if you can get it is TTD 15-1800 TTD main bearings around 15-2000 TTD rod bearings, around 900 TTD. and you have not ordered the full overhaul kit as yet( ????). It may be cheaper to buy a used engine and slip it in. However on e-bay you can get a rebuild kit std rings, main and rod bearings and full gasked set for as little as USD 160.00. with shipping at $40.00 USD verses TTD 7-8K locally for all parts combined.
I have a Cefiro JK 200 (Local) , got it back in 2005 it was 2 1/2 years old when I got it and it had 80,000 kms on the clock. The first thing I did was to change the crappy single core Nissan radiator and put in dual core metal unit. this made a difference. I also changed the crank censor's one year after I got it and changed 4 wheel bearings at year 4, changed frond bushings in year 4 changed one alternator at year 4 and four engine mounts year 5 also had to change the stupid valve cover as the spark plug tube seals cannot be changed so the whole cover needs to be changed, massy is 3k and gasket is $250.00 E-bay you can get it at 107.00 USD and shipping is $50.00USD.
I am now at 240,000 kms and only today the head gasket blew, I got a mis-fire yesterday with no overheating sign's ( I also have a tenp guage Installed one year after i bought the car because I do not like the blue and red indicator on the dash, a poor system.) So my eye is always on the guage, but no physical signs to warn me, it just happened, mis-fire first then overheating the next day. You would think overheating first and then mis-firing!!!!!!!!!.
The Guage gives an acurate reading so it easy to know what temp the engine is always at. Funny though, when the car starts cold it idles normally when the temprature is under 80 deg c, once you get to 100-120 deg c this mis starts.
So my Qr20 after 240,000 kms and 8 years of running seems okay up till yesterday, but with all the measures took the head gasked did it things without warning. Unfortunately the QR20 once working at peak works well, not a quick performer in the J31 chassis, but runs smooth and fairly quiet.
JK 200 is a nice car but Nissan should have stuck to the SR concept just like the L series and the RB, thes acts are hard to beat.
