KrAzYBoY, unless u have a speed cut it wont matter same 112mph and the sr16 gbox getting there long before the m6. the only difference is the rpm.

so can it be concluded that there is no good FWD SR20 (DET) Gearbox?? cuz its looks like no matter what, depending on the circumstances, fwd sr20 boxes does just mash up, and its starts with the 3rd and reverse gears... but there must be some way, and i mean reasonably priced way of beefing up the box so that it can hold up.

You can cryo treat and shot pein the gear sets, shot pein the housing and reinforce the area arount the right side axle/selector rod, or you can buy some PAR gear sets.

WRONG!

How is the statement wrong? its the transmission control unit that sends a signal to the ECU to activate the VVL solenoids. Which is why once you use a VE off a M6 equipped car you need a secondary unit to trigger the sols. The SR20VE off the P12GT ECU 6spd would be different as it uses feed back off the engine ecu only, this info is true or false?

VVL activation has absolutely nothing to do with whatever drivetrain is mated to the engine, on ALL VE motors cams are activated by the ECU, have you ever heard of the X-Trail GT? it comes withe the SR20VET and is mated to a 4WD, 4speed, NON CVT tranny, could you tell me what activates the cams in this engine?

I have installed many a SR20VE mated to gearboxes and 4speed trannys (kick down cable type with no TCM), and never had a problem with VVL activation.

In order for VVL to activate, three signals are needed, (1) speed sensor signal, (2) coolant temperature signal, and (3) RPM signal, none of which has anything to do with the CVT TCM.

Okay thats rather interesting, so why is it that many people with the VE swap with manual conversion end up using a MSS or MSD switch?. I am trying to gather info quickly as I would like to do a VE swap soon and this information is some what surprising. Thanks for clearing that up for me n I guess others as well.

The SR20VE stock activation points are high up in the RPM range, people merely use a secondary device to lower the activation points to optimize the benefits of the cams when using a manual transmission.

is there a way to know what spline your gearbox carries by looking at it. I have a Sr20 Gearbox in my sr18engine in a b12. the ratios are somewhat short....somewhat...but the clutch needs changing badly, is it safer to drop out the box and carry the clutch as a sample? Is a genuine clutch a good buy?

My co-worker is having a hard time with gearboxes, he has been through a few of them within a 2 year period!
The present gearbox was rebuilt 3-4mts ago and now the 3rd gear is grating!

Engine is SR20VE with minor mods
Small spline hydraulic gearbox (non lsd)
OE: flywheel, clutch & pressure plate
Castrol gear oil

Possible problem/solution?

First of all, put back the 2 dowels, and use a "sensible" clutch set up.

JJ16 wrote:well i've heard some talk about the tranny not being able to handle more than 150Hp+ unless it came with a turbo engine or someting like that..not 2 sure about the whole rule of it..but i believe the best thing to do if u wanna install a tranny on a sr20det, is to rebuild the tranny before installing it...

rebuild it to take boost one time..so it wud be strong and would last..also install a tranny/oil cooler...would help make the life of your tranny alot longer.

and what do u mean if u limited to converting to a "box"?? as in if u have to convert 2 a gearbox to run your sr20det..if so i guess u wud get your answer above here.

^ Lemme jump in the mix here. I beg to disagree with what youre saying on two basis. The first one is that i have a tranny in my car with a sr20 vvl fwd and it dynoed well over 150hp and tranny works fine. On the second basis - Dave on the forum used to have a b14 running hard NOS on a tranny and it worked fine - he did some mods to the tranny, other than that - everything was cool.

Re-programming the transmission via an aftermarket kit.
