Postby mrich88 » June 5th, 2006, 7:47 pm

HI
I'd like to know if anyone has information on sunroof installation - ie. wwho does it WELL and the price of installation?
I have heard rumours previously that if u install a sunroof it always leaks.
Can u all clear this up for me and dispell any rumours...

^ always leaks when those guys use cheap rubber seals (the real hard one) and poorly prepped surfaces (that the rubber attached to)

my neighbour installed a toyota sunroof on his nissan b11 and has not had any problems with it in the 4 years i've known him and the car

the idea of cutting the roof never appealed to me if it must bedone I would prefer buy a whole roof with the sunroof and weld that on

there's a few places in bamboo that sell many kinds of rubber. the one my neighbour used is one normally used on front windscreen replacement.

it not that expensive either

i heard that the trick is buyin the entire roof and cutting and welding it unto your roof than just buying the sunroof and cuttin roof to make it fit... a straightener told me this, i guess u could clarify with richie rich....

Kaycee151, the thing with cutting the whole roof, or even the area (on a car that wasn't designed for it), is that the roof plays a big part in the structural integrity of the car, it is a part of the "cabin" and plays a big part is the rigidity of the frame, as well as part of the support for how the car reacts on impact.

If you cut this off, you have "compromised" the structure, the car's ability to withstand an impact, as well as just to "hold together" You may have seen one of those old cars that people cut off the roof (to make convertable), and the car "sags" in the center.

Actually I was saying there was an issue of safety, but I saw a guy who did a car as mine and he cut his roof area to facilitate a sunroof. I thought it was an OEM install. what I reasised is that the sunroof rack basically bolts to each side of the roof to the line where the roof handles bolt on. So in itself the rack will act as the rigid piece.
