X-trail vs Grand Vitara

Postby vi1012 » March 2nd, 2017, 10:36 am

Apologies if I am posting in the wrong place ...

Hey all, I'm looking for a little advice. I am looking around at local used suvs, I am down to a 2010 xtrail and GV. The deciding factor will be the power train and 4wd system. I had two GVs before, I never had problems, they are tough, the 4wd system is tough, and they can take a beating ... I am not one to be too careful on rough roads etc.. I am not familiar with the xtrail systems, the quality of the cvt transmission or the 4wd system, I know it is more clutches than actual gears.
I don't do hardcore off-road trails, the most I do will be beach, getting up hiking trails, and a little Exploring now and then ... I like knowing my vehicle is capable even though I might not use it to its fullest, and again, most importantly I don't want a vehicle that will break easily ... the transmission and 4wd system are my concerns with the xtrail ..
Any advice/info will be appreciated.

I can say the Xtrail 4wd system can turn it self off if it overheats or in other conditions, regardless of the setting its in.

Makes it questionable in an offroad situation if it has a mind of its own. Cant say if the GV still has good ole mostly mechanical 4wd.
