WTK - Y12 front brake upgrade

Postby Seedragon » September 4th, 2014, 10:22 am

Tuners,

Does anyone know a simple and cost effective way to upgrade a Y12 Wingroad ( rider ) front brake system, with little or NO mods'.

Any idea what bolt up application of a bigger rotor and caliper ( double piston ) can work and who can do this for me ?

I was reading a post on line and saw this -
http://www.nissanversaforums.com/brakes ... udget.html

Can the JK / X trail / skyline / S14 ( double piston ) - system work ? I think the 4 piston caliper and rotor may be too big ?

I want a better fares response !
Holla.

PPL ,
Anyone have any experience with big brake upgrades or know if the below can work ?

1. Can I use the S13 -14 double piston calliper's and larger rotors with fatter brake line ?
2. Can I use the double piston calliper and larger rotor from an Serna van setup with fatter brake lines ?
3. Do I buy an after market kit ( new ) last resort.

I'll look into this. My gf owns a Y12 so I'll experiment.

'ton713'
I also am in process of finding out, I meet a fellow tuner who is familiar with this app as he works in a Foreign used market and he is sure something can work.
I will holla at the soonest if any app can work.

just get better disc pads and maybe do a brake fluid flush if the car is roro (dot 4)
rather than the crappy wagner and most others available locally
bigger brakes without any engine upgrades is a waste imo
your car will accelerate from stand still slower with added unsprung weight

if i tell you what will work for the rear you wont believe me anyway so i wont bother.

WRT to "bigger" brakes i not sure what will work for the front but bigger might not be better
things you can do to increase brake performance

1. get rotors slotted to allow better cooling
2. better brakes pad - wagner is junk - the OEM pad for these particular vehicles is actually akebono.
EBC is a good choice
3. DOT4 fluid - complete flush and removal of all DOT3 fluid - replace with DOT4
4. stainless steel brake lines - does not expand when the fluid that travels though it is being pressurized - gives an awesome pedal feel.

I'm thinking the 2.0 G11 Sylphy front brake setup may work as (I've heard that they have the front as the Wingroad and Tiida). The rotors are at least half inch bigger.

What you say about the rear?

i not sure about the 2.0 G11 sylphy front brakes.... to me it looks like the same brakes it carries on the normal 1.5 models.

i do know that the tiida, y12 wingroad....G11 sylphy (1.5) and the K12 March they all use the same rotor and caliper.

the caliper from the tiida- the part # is 41001-JJ40A
list of vehicles its used in

MARCH 2002/02 - 2010/07 K12

CUBE CUBIC 2003/09 - 2008/11 GZ11

TIIDA 2004/09 - 2012/06 C11

TIDA LATIO 2004/10 - 2012/06 SC11

WINGROAD 2005/11 - Y12

BLUEBIRD SYLPHY 2005/12 - 2012/12 G11

G11 MR20DE Sylphy uses the same 260mm rotor and caliper as both HR15DE & MR18DE Y12s.

Have been using EBC Greenstuff pads and new OEM discs on a Y12 about a month now. Definitely improved stopping power over oem pads. Downside is that Greenstuff's are very dusty.

Unless you have a MR16DDT, don't bother using bigger front discs/calipers or a rear disc conversion.
I have not seen Hawk making a pad for the Y12 pad size in their catalog. So EBC Greenstuff is the way to go for upgrading Y12 brakes.

fellas
I upgraded the rotors (Vented & Slotted) and got some good pads to go along with it, also I changed the Brake fluid to DOT5 --- YES dot5, the brakes feel and respond way better ... you notice it right away. All I need to do is the Stainless steel brake lines ... BTW can any one get these for me??

Rear brakes poses a challenge as I have no time to go by my pal in the bamboo to do a scrap down trial and error which may take 2 days..
I running Fake rear rotor and caliper ...LOL real thief head business.

you said vented and slotted - the pic shows the rotor as being vented and cross drilled.

which rotor did you use ?
did u use another size Nissan rotor from another vehicle and shave / re drill to use or did u special order the rotor from another company.??

reason why i'm asking is that now you have upgraded your stopping power the brakes will generate alot more heat. the problem with just cross drilling the rotors - if you in fact did that - is that you get hot spots and cool spots on the rotor surface.

long story short - the rotor begins to crack - by the holes on the rotor and these cracks spread to other holes on the rotor surface - and so on and so on - thereby weakening the rotor...till eventually the rotor cracks or shatters.

i'd actually advise you getting it slotted instead of cross drilled.

some manufacturer rotors are cross drilled from factory - these are designed - due to the metal used and the rotor construction - to be able to withstand the cracking by the holes - within reason....

that being said cross drilled rotors look cooler than plain stock ones...so you get the "racy / sporty look" from the cross drilled rotors.

btw see your pm.
