URGENT HELP NEEDED. Tucson Idling issues

Postby 1UZFE » August 30th, 2013, 7:28 pm

Hi Tuners,
I have a 2005 local Hyundai Tucson.
The problem im having is that when my AC is on my idle drops to abt 500-550rpm which causes the car to idle rough and on 1 occassion stall. Also when i start up on mornings my idle starts abt 550 den goes up to the required 1100-1150 rpm within abt 3 seconds den comes down to 750.
What i did.
I serviced the vehicle, cleaned throttle body, new V power plugs , oil, filter, new battery etc. I also scanned the car a few times. Check for vacuum leaks, changed IAC (hoping" i bought a faulty 1 and the problem is dat) check d TPS (also dont mind buyin a new 1 if that solevs problem) changed oxygen sensor (new) , knock out cat converter (one in front) check alternator, everything works fine.
Problem still happening when start up or when coming to a sudden stop with d AC on.
I was told to check d EGR valve. didnt get around to that.
Please help tuners or direct me to someone who can solve this...

Yep, a dirty or clogged EGR can cause issues with idling/hesitation. If your mechanic can't find the problem, perhaps you should get a second opinion.

@1UZFE, could be a combination of things that is causing your issue, or it could be one simple fix.

Any CEL's? Let your mech check to see there are any error codes showing up in a diagnostic scan.

thats d thing Vexxx Dogg no check light on. I scanned the van in the past n the oxygen sensor in the exghaust came us as an error and i changed that. I cleaned the EGR nothing changed. Tomorrow i would foam out the throttle body and clean the injectors also a friend loaned me a TPS sensor to check if that helps.
This issue becoming frustrating.

I would suggest two things.
1 - check a different mechanic, perhaps one who is more familiar with Hyundai.
2 - get a copy of the Service Manual for the Tuscon and see if any of the troubleshooting guides can help pinpoint the issue and suggest a fix.

I had an idle issue with my civic, i thought is was the IAC but it turned out that it was the TDC sensor. It was in its early stages of failure. The car would rough idle when stopping at a traffic light, the symptoms got worse and the car eventually stalled after a couple of months. I since changed the sensor and everything is fine now.

Maybe you can check that out?

These parts and sensors you changing, are they original or aftermarket? Did you clean or check your injectors?

cleaned injectors and EGR. The IAC and MAF is aftermarket. But there was absolutely no change to the issues, also after re scanning the car the values remained the same so that would reveal that the sensors didnt cause the issue.

Did you take them out to clean them? Did you check your fuel pressure are you getting enough fuel on idle, is your vehicle gas or diesel you using the right fuel? Super or premium? Does your vehicle only have 1 oxygen sensor? The oxygen sensor can be lazy and not throw a code you will only see it on a live data stream. I just offering stuff to check in case you missed anything. It could be something as simple as a loose wire or slack hose. Hope you get thru.

Its gettin the correct fuel ie super. I changed the O2 sensor original, the data stream for that is excellent responds very quick. Hopin its something simple like the loose wire u assumed but everything was checked. I want to carry it by another electrician to get the grounds checked. Any suggestions?

Where you from? I know of a guy in St Joseph. Are your battery poles tightened properly?

I'll get you the number tomorrow it in my car directions. . From the main Rd drive until you reach the bridge. As you pass the bridge There's a Rd on the right take it and just drive then it's a small road on your left. There's a sign. "Franks electrical" i think..May sound tricky but it's quite simple to find.
