ABS problem MAZDA Familia bj model :( HELP ME

Postby cherrylips » February 3rd, 2012, 8:54 am

hi guys,
my abs light and handbrakes light keeps coming on the dashboard, i visited numerous mechanics and electricians who are all telling me 50million reasons as to what the problem is, from a defective master cylinder to replacing the abs system.

my brakes failed while driving on wednesday, on the brakes pads are in good condition, but i wasnt able to instantly get brakes and almost got into a serious accident!! :(

If there is anyone who can help me plz plz let me kno, i understand that these abs system cost a fortune.

I am a desperate girl who is clueless and who cant live without a car :'(

Anyone plz help!!!

If both the abs and handbrake lights are coming on and your fluid is at a good level it is usually a sign of failing master cylinder and sometimes brake booster.
Are you losing fluid, ie fluid drops but no leaks visible?

Try removing the fuse for the abs, abs will be disabled, if the brake problem persists, that a definite sign of what i stated at first.

is your brake pedal hard or soft?
is your brake fluid dark coloured?
more than likely you have a failing master cylinder get it fixed and stop driving the car in that condition

Is there a repair kit for the MC or do you have to get a new one when the rubbers go through?

You can do what rollingstock said and remove the ABS fuse, this kills the abs from even trying to work when you apply brakes, if the fuse is in with both hand brake and ABS light on it will try to come on sometime and you get a hard pedal, no brakes, grating noise from abs..etc By removing the fuse the brakes work like 'long time brakes', mash and skate...lol, so you have to press and let go fast to get a quick stop without skating.
What's the colour of the brakes fluid? Abs system needs clean fluid, you don't want some little piece of rubber getting stuck in the abs pump. $$$
You should change the MC and see how things go (or change both booster and cylinder).....BTW the both lights are on in my 323 too

^ misinterpreted MC for being muddakant and not master cylinder

There are seal kits for repairing master cylinders, never had o buy one for a mazda so can't say where you will get it, but shouldn't be that difficult.

Sometimes when the mc go bad it leaks internally into the booster causing fluid levels to drop and hand brakes light to come on.

I'm betting its an ABS sensor.
If from south. go here. "Shannon's" http://wikimapia.org/#lat=10.3053005&lon=-61.445066&z=19&l=0&m=b
He has a diagnostic scanner that works with your model car. And the three vehicles that were sent have been correctly diagnosed, and rectified.
A foreign used sensor is approx $150, and can be bought nearby, if it's that.

Guys:

I have the same problem-both lights on. However the brake fluid reservoir is completely full and the brakes are hard and stops great. What do you think? Can low brake pads cause that?

^ I would always advise to get it scanned first, see what codes are being thrown and move from there.

You're from Central so if you want a reliable mechanic who is not hard on the pocket I can get a # for a guy in Ragoonanan road if you like, he has a scan tool so he can diagnose the problem right there and fix it

I went to Amit. He said the RR sensor was bad. I changed that but only the brake light came off - ABS still on. Strange!

I got it by Gazallie's in Chaguanas. Their number is in the yellow pages. I got it for $150. Great price-for a 323 sensor!
