USING TRANSMISSION FULID IN DIESEL???

Postby b14inb12 » September 21st, 2011, 11:23 pm

i was at the gas station and i say a old man [ well about 60 or more ] throwing a quart of transmission oil in his diesel tank. i was confused with what i saw. so i went and ask him why he is doing that? and he said that i would not understand. but i said that i want to know. he said that it is about 45yrs now he driving trucks and cars using diesel and every month he puts a quart of transmission oil in them and with that he don`t get any trouble with his vehicles. he said that it clean his injectors and the cylinder walls of his engine. he said all these treatment that we buy is either kerosene or leaded gas with additive. he told me to watch and see if any black smoke comes out of his exhaust, and their was non.

the question is, what did i just witness
and what you all think of his idea of using transmission oil in his diesel tank

The old guys have been doing that for a long time. With gas vehicles too. I think it's because of the high detergent properties of the transmission fluid that gives people the impression that it's a cleaner. I've even heard people advise that putting transmission fluid in your oil is a good way to clean the engine without those engine flushes, which are basically just kerosene.

Personally, I wasn't putting that was designed to work for my drivetrain in my engine. A bottle of redline fuel system cleaner in my tank every couple mths is all I need.

In SOME PS systems, yes, it is required by the manufacturer to use ATF as indicated on the reservoir cap.

I know I am bumping this old tread, but has anyone ever did this in their vehicles and what were the outcomes?
