CF9 Transmission problems

Postby Lean Wid IT » May 3rd, 2011, 11:35 am

i was wondering if any of u guys ever encounterd something like this..

When now starting when vehicle is cold i hear a slight whirring noise around the transmission area, then after a while when the car warms up and movin off when the gears change it jerks slightly and this happens for alil while till it warms up i assume?.

Cuz after 10mins of drivin it stops.....

then another problem is when coming to a complete stop about a second after stopping i get a slight jerk again as if the tranny now stop...can anyone explain this plz?

to help me diagnose the problem because i changed the fluid last September....

any help will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a converter problem, the whining sound is usually a sure tell.

Basically teh coverter replaces the clutch in a manual vehicle, i'm no mech so i would advise to check a good mech. The converter has small blades inside, if these break or warp, or even the converter housing warp from overheating it can cause a whining sound and loss of performance and jerking as the gears go in.

Honda atf is kind of expensive, before wasting that money needlessly have a good mechanic have a look at it, you could put that money towards a rebuild or new tranny. By chance have you checked the dip stick to see the coloration of teh fluid and if there's any burn smell. Also take off the drain plug and let a little fluid flow out into a container and check for metallic shavings, some plugs are magnetic so there should be some on there too.

I had that problem and more last year with my cf9. When the engine is cold, its fine but after a while, it jerks or "slams" into a gear. It will get worse if you are on an incline and mashing the accelerator. The transmission needed to be rebuilt. I heard between 90,000 & 120,000 miles is when cf9 transmissions begins to fail. Hope everything works out.

Had this problem with my CF9 first the converter had to be fixed then the clutches needed to be replaced . Go to Chaguanas Auto supplies they did everyting for me for about >$4000.00. Or you could buy the repair kit online then have a "good" mechanic do the work.
