Halogen Bulb. Not Homologated. These bulbs are not road legal and are to be used for decorative purposes, for competition, circuit and off road only.

I was told that product is the "closest" thing to HID...

So what exactly do u mean by "proper bulbs" ?...I want the brightest lights possible...without goin HID

Have a long read

http://www.danielsternlighting.com/home.html

http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?87-Automotive

Just because it's "white light similar to HIDs" doesn't make it better. Also brighter is also not always better.

Add to that 100W on a 60W harness = meltdown

If you can, do a comparison with stock HID vs the "retrofit" HID and judge for your self.

look for Sylvania bulbs (55W), or Phillips... might cost a little extra but the Phillips i got on my car were EXCELLENT!

NB Using a higher wattage would not only damage your wiring, but also your headlight as well...

tbh ive used silverstars and they have been installed almost 6 years now and going strong
i want to change them though because im certain the light output diminishes with age.
best out put is clean your headlights inside and out and use some good 55w bulbs
btw the "white" lights are actually useless on a street light by yellow street lights and are terrible in the rain

Silverstars are about as good as you'll get locally.

If you can source stuff from foreign, try Osram Night Breakers, Phillips X-Treme or Narva +30/+50

So you sayin that the "Phillips X-Treme" is better than the "Sylvania silverstar ultra" ?
Which is better between the two? ...(because its more expensive online which says something most times)

Honestly, I used to use the Sylvania Silverstar Ultra.. I hope it does you better than it did me..
I found the light to be 10% better than stock AT BEST... Concerning the claim that its a white light as well, its just slightly less yellow than your average bulb..

Personally, I wasn't impressed as at all by them and for the price paid, I eventually decided to invest in some Philips X-Treme Power H4 instead.. No "blue" coating on the bulb means less light wasted trying poorly to pretend HID, but more light being projected...
Better bulb life than the sylvania as well

All H4 would have high and low beams regardless of brand.

H1, H4 etc etc are specific bulb designs and any bulb carrying one of the designations must conform to the basic standards for that bulb.

The bulbs arrived today.Cost me a total of about $285 (shipping and handling included) to bring from amazon. They were installed and the headlamps were adjusted to suite them. They are much brighter and slightly whiter than the stock ones. They stretch further and wider than the stock ones on both beams.Light actually passes the road edge to the left by a descent amount and the front of the car on the right would be lit up as well(dont worry it not hittin anyone in their eyes). And all this was observed within a few minutes in a fairly lit area, which means they will work wonders in pitch black areas(like some places through "the fields" in south)...Im goin to order another set sometime OR try the "Philips X-Treme Power" when they burn out...because the expected lifetime is about 12 months...could be less.but "I" rather have amazing lights for night driving which dont last long than to have poor/barely average lights to last me a lifetime.

I have the philips on the volvo about a yr now and they still going strong.. and the volvo is running as DRL's low beam.. Basically once the car on (almost every day) the lights on..

Overall very impressed..
That said, i usually get way above the expected life of bulbs..
OEM bulb from the factory was still going strong on the accord after 14yrs til i upgraded...
Pajero bulb is the original from factory for 11 yrs before switching to philips...

Even have 2.5 yrs use so far on the silverstar ultra on a a33 cefiro and those bulbs not known for long life..

Since we on the topic of headlight upgrades, has anyone installed HIDs on an A31 cefiro with stock projectors? Want to do an upgrade and contemplating this option. Would only be on the low beams (the high beam will remain halogen) and since it's already a projector lens the cut off should also work with the HIDs, right? Would appreciate some feedback so I can decide if to switch or simply upgrade to the Phillips.

waxy... I think that the stock projectors will be of sufficient quality to handle the HID's...
I would just make sure to aim them properly after doing the install and go for a relatively low colour temperature.. 5000k or lower, ie. maximum light without as many people flashing you because of the bluish tint..

What sockets are the bulbs on that car, low and high? That would help me in giving you some advice..

PS. Props for asking first before doing.. Good to see that people considering doing HID's the right way..
