Postby FASTec » March 5th, 2011, 8:28 pm

it only fades when improperly applied
you need lots of coats of candy and clear not the base coat with 2 coat of candy and half a coat of clear most people used because it cheap

like every othe paint it fades after a while. how long depend on how much exposure your car get to the elements. like is it in a garage out in the dew lenght period of constant sunlight. but it is said the average life of candy is 3-5 years tops some paint say.

I painted over recently and the paint shop peeps told me that it fades. That's why it is so expensive to do it properly but damn it looks so sexy

ok
fades over time? what period of time are they saying???
a paint job should last you at least 10yrs with PROPER maintenance
i not talkin backyard hand polishing every year the clear needs to be well maintained and once it is applied properly you should not have issues

Wouldnt doubt it but I think what they say is that it is more likely to fade than normal paints so in essence you're running a higher risk of fading....But as you said, once the clear is a high solid clear and applied properly then there shouldnt be a problem. Unfortunately we live in Trinidad where the smartman always wins so most people fall victim to the painters who work on their cars. In my opinion a car should be buffed very often and also a good idea would be to re-clear coat every three years or so. Two quarts of high solid runs about $630 the last time i checked and that should be more than enough to protect the paint. There is a new type of paint now that incorporates something called prismatiq i believe. It is somewhat similar to the candy and it lasts a bit better. Take a visit to an autocolor shop and ask them about it if you're interested in that candy look

Make sure they mix it properly and it's the colour you wanted. I tolld the painter to paint it Candy apple and he gave me a dark green. Pissed as hell!

I thinking bout painting myself and in candy blue so Ido not want to be fooled. Another thing, how many quarts paints a car sufficiently? The car being a CS3 Lancer.

Candy is a translucent paint. This is why you see so many candy painted cars driving around with the silver basecoat exposed. The paint was never designed to take the constant abuse from the elements that your daily driven vehicle would experience. It fades in as little as 3 years, as stated above.

If your car is a daily driven car, don't use a candy paint. Look at other options to get a similar effect.
