WTK: Electronic Power Steering Fault

Postby xthreemist » September 3rd, 2010, 1:15 pm

I know there is a euro forum but I want some all round advice.

I have a Renault Megane II 2005.
There is a message on my display saying STEERING FAULT.The steering has gone seriously hard. By the way its Electronic Power Steering so there's no power steering fluid to top up.

What options do I have? What could cause the failure? Chip? Fuse? Electrical short?

Thanks Alot

Don't have much experiance with euro's but as far as i know the speed sensor is a common problem with electronic power steerings, there is also a position sensor on the steering to indicate the steering position to the ecu (power steering) . A scan should be your first step

This is a very common problem with these vehicles. Eventually you will loose full power steering assistance on your vehicle. Is it possible to take it back to Renault for a complete check ? - Hopefully the following link (after image) would provide you with some assistance.
