opinions/ideas needed--putting a external tranny oil cooler

Postby X_Factor » March 6th, 2010, 5:06 pm

so i've decided to finally put this project into play after about 1yr of putting off...

now the existing cooler in the rad will be bypassed...anyone who has oil coolers can u give me an idea of the size that you use and the efficiency after putting in the cooler..

also, if i wanted to put the cooler in front the a/c condenser would that cause the a/c to take longer to get cold n stuff

or where would be the ideal place to put the cooler?

vehicle is a B14

you can put it but it is not needed
but if you have the space and the right size fan also you can tap into the radiatof fan signal since it comes on with a thermo switch

place it directly in front of your radiator.. at speed, the air entering your engine will keep both the transmission and engine cool.. in slow moving traffic, your radiator fan will automatically kick in simultaneously cooling both your engine / transmission.. that way no external fan is required..

most good cooler manufacturers will have a recommended cooler size for your vehicle.. and they typically will recommend going to one size larger than the recommended if bypassing the OE transmission cooler..

a really nice investment imo is a transmission temp gauge, i just wished i had the space to install one..

Put one in, it can only help. I've had a transmission (in a galant) rebuilt a few years ago, day after I left the shop it overheated. Rebuilt it again (same shop) but this time put in the cooler. Lasted for over two years before I sold the car.

Most AWD cars come with a factory trans. oil cooler so it can only help.
