WTK: pinking/pinging problem

Folks i got a pinging problem last night with my 2E carb engine, the car worked great from grande to tunapuna then all of a sudden the ignition began to rattle once i mash out from tunapuna.

I've gotten suggestions that it could be the gas, but the thing is its the same tank of gas from Valencia i'm using for the past couple days...only now it dropped to 1/4 tank then the problem surfaced.

So the question is could the problem be the gas or timing somehow gone off? btw new timing belt replaced an engine timed over properly within the last month!

prob could be many things

for starters

clean out your gas tank

service your carb

change your spark plugs

clean/service pistonhead/combustion chamber for carbon buildup

make sure your timing is properly set

service and set your distrubutor

yea boi once we had run low on gas on our car and apparentli the gas tank wasnt to clean an we end up in sum problems.....so try takin out d carb an cleanin out d jets and thing....check d plugs....check d plug wires....check d gas filter an tings....if all of dat in order den check d timing an see if dat off...

it could simply be a sign that u run the car extra hard between points a & b and the temp went a little too high aiding in showing that your engine timing may be a bit off.

no i didn't run hard and the tank has been lower than that before an never seen a problem, so i dont think its the carb........the amount of things u guys posted there it could take a while to pinpoint the problem...lol

i think i'm gonna drain the gas an half it with premium an see if that helps!

First thing to do is go to your mechanic or any mechanic and check the ignition timing see if it is 10 degrees advance or less at idle.
Then check it at 2500 rpm and see if the timing goes pass 18 degrees advance or even higher.
Most likely your timing problems comes from the distributor if it is points its burnt.

After a couple painful hours, its not gas/plugs/wires! for some reason plugs 1 & 2 not firing, but the car starts an idles rough....going by the mechanic in the morning to time over again, hopefully it was just the belt that skipped an offset the timing (praying this is the problem)

Ok problem solved....checked my old mechanic, explained the problem an he said its the head gasket, when we scrapped it down we saw the gasket blew between the 1st an 2nd cylinder an water was mixing in the chamber.

Head gasket changed an engine working 100% again! thanks for the help otherwise!

I have to check my head gasket, got the same problem in a 720 pickup, changed distributor point, serviced carb, changed plugs but same prob.
