odo not working

went to see an almera for sale,but the odometer,which shows the mileage u can only see the bottom half is this a major problem or minor? :cry:

possibly may mean that the cars odo has been altered....

X3.... a surefire sign of tampering...
could be simple tampering...but look for evidence of an engine change...
look at the car to see if there is heavy use around the body...
telltale signs are

doors that need to be slammed to close.....hanging doors so to speak
heavy wear on the drivers seat
steering wheel finish is eaten away
overly dirty seatbelts

those are some simple checks you can do to see how a car was used and treated.

forget the odo man if it tampered with jus check the condition of the vehicle many vehicles carry severe milage and still are in far better condition of some cars with less on the odo..

true but why take a chance. a 4cylinder engine dont have endless life in it, especially if its got high mileage and was not serviced properly.

its a bunch of moving parts, wear and tear. no matter how well you care for an engine, it gets old. Mileage is the best way to estimate the remaining life.
