turbo water lines

Postby LedZep » June 28th, 2008, 11:34 am

hey ppls i need some help, whats the most effective way to tap the stock cars water cooling system to run some water lines to a turbo....
if i use the heater core how to know which one of the two lines to tap? should this be done in series or route out the turbo to something else??

some turbos come with both water and oil cooling lines. Most stock Nissan T25/28 turbos are like that. Sounds like he is making a -T

LedZep, it would have to be run in series. Google for a cooling diagram for S14/S15 to get some ideas. Don't have an FSM on this PC

^Because it's run in series with the engine cooling, and through the radiator and thermostat, temperature of the coolant is maintained at 76 to 80 deg C.

all subarus as well as porshe use water cooling on their turbos as well as oil its the same principle as the water cooling your engine block which gets just as hot as a turbo . the water in ure coolin system is pressurized which raises the boiling point significanly this is why if u were to open ure raditaor cap when hot u will get an explosion of steam....beacuse when u release the pressure the water boils instantly....pressure cookers and steam engines run on the same principle...

all rx7 are both water and oil cooled....................

easist way is from the radiator run a line to the turbo..you will have to make a conector pipe with a smaller dia. hose for turbo and then retun to return side of radiator.............
or diectly from pump housing you can add a T to tap into to the turbo and return to radiator..............

or you can use a T at heator core , but make sure the heater core side you use is active always not only when heat is on...........................

in any set up always make sure you return to return side of water cooling system

thanks guys ..... i was looking at the radiator hose tapping option^... but i took the lines running from the throttle body and used those instead i figured out that hot water runs through them all the time even after the engine is warmed
