SR20det Avenir Problems - Help

Postby V2NR 3.0 » October 2nd, 2007, 2:11 pm

Nissan Guys,

No-one in the "Classifieds" forum seem to be helping here.

This is what i have : SR20det Avenir Front Wheel Drive engine.

Challenge:

1. The engine is smoking like crazy. I cant even start the car for more than 5 mins without my whole yard filling up with smoke.

2. Gearbox needs repairing/replacing/ - Third gear has a slight "grate" when being engaged.

If any of you guys could assist that would be great. I have no idea whats causing the smoking - but im sure its not the turbo. do i have to re-build the engine? - if so where can i get an engine re-build kit for this engine?.

With regards to the gearbox - can the syncromeshing be changed for 3rd gear or do i have to change the entire gearbox?.

Somebody link me up here and offer some assistance or at least the number for a good mechanic (so hard to come by these days).

Did the install and cant enjoy the car because of above challenges. Much thanks.

i can link the full kit, from sump pan to valve cover, vicinty is about $4-5k
your turbo sounds fishy
do a compression or leak down test and confirm the rings and valve seals

Re-check all your Crank-case ventilation outlets and systems (oil catch can, PCV valve etc). Remove the plugs and check their condition. they'll give you an idea of the condition of your combustion chamber, if your plugs are wet, then your rings might be bad. remove the turbo inlet hose and inspect the condition of the compressor/turbine wheel. check if oil is present. 790-4347 if you need help.
