from my knowledge, it would need cleaning if your car is idling bad or not responding properly at low revs...

to clean the TB, just take it out and spray the inside with some Gum Solve... that will dissolve all the carbon build up..

to remove the TB, disassemble your intake to gain acces to it, unplug all the sensors / hoses attached and remove the bolts holding it to the intake manifold..

when putting everything back together, make sure the TB gasket is in good condition! if not, get a new one...

Also make sure the throttle body is cold before cleaning

to prevent that^^^^^^ you start the car just after cleaning.....that way the carbon is burnt in the combustion chamber instead of by-passing the rings........

if you keeping the TB on the car while cleaning, make sure and use a TB cleaner and not any ordany carbon cleaner.......if u arent carful you could damage the TPS and if u have e-throttle well you could damage more stuff......
i clean my TB while still attached to the manifold......(to hard to take off) so i start the car like one minute after i clean the TB.

I would advise removing the entire throttle body for cleaning, using something like BARS make cause all the gunk to deposit on the pistons and I have heard people say it causes the compression to go up and issues over time. I am not too sure but if you're gonna cleaning it bolted I suggest you use the right things and get the throttle body cleaner spray and not BARS. Just my 2cents.

Look at your accelerator pedal under the dash and you will see variable resistor that spins when the pedal is mashed(usually white in colour). It has about 4 wires coming out of it .
Or look for the accelerator cable on your engine - if you see non then you have e- throttle.

it is also highly recommended that when cleaning the throttle body you take a cloth and stick it in the opening to wipe up as much excess as possible let as little as possible get down into the engine

From experience I know that after I clean the throttle body the rev is usually much higher than before. If you experience this you would have to turn the idle air screw until the rpm drops because you will suffer from terrible fuel economy.

when putting everything back together, make sure the TB gasket is in good condition! if not, get a new one...

Actually get a new one B4 removing the TB!. If you damage the gasket when removing the TB you will have it on hand
