well yeah...better than rolling with a clogged/dirty one...that'll mess with your allergies and might put a bit of strain on the blower motor...it's just for a day or two

I noticed a few small dried leaves in it (3 to be exact). If those mofos get in, cant they cause damage in the spinny thingy under the dash?
Is it safe to dismantle all of that and clean it out too? Its full of dust and smells like truck exhaust in there.

you could if you're good with your hands and know how to put things back together without having a handful of "extra parts" after

I had to replace my Almera blower once, so I took the time to clean down the fan propeller, housing, etc. one time...it's not difficult to get it out, just a little awkward to get below there and you'll bruise your knuckles up against the firewall trying to get the screws at the back. It's worth it tho.

Looks like I gonna be scrapping it out this weekend then, looks easy enough to get out. Shouldnt be hard to put back together, if one is unsure its always good to label them and put numbers so you know how to put back what you take out in the reverse order it came out.
Benefits of being small in size yes, I get under there with ease.
Already pulled out all the vents and cleaned them one by one, a little wd40 in joint thingies in the little thingies that direct the air flow freed them up a lot.

Take pics. Easier than numbers AND it'll make for a great DIY post.

I got pics....but ummm....I lazy  .
I suppose I will edit this same post and put up the pics with the vent removal and the ones with the removal of the filter and if I suceed this weekend...the cleaning of the thingy watchamacallit under there this weekend *bites nails*.

Or should I throw up the vent removal pics in a seperate thread?

edit before clean up:

Image

The area marked off in red is where the cover comes off. I will post more pics weekend. If your hands small and you have a long nail to pry with you can simply pry the underneath toward you and raise upwards (with you facing into the dashboard).
The 2 screws I removed from the dash under the pic dont have to be removed. You simply:

Open the glove compartment, look in the 2 bottom corners you will see what looks like a flat cylindrical plastic button. If you examine closely you will see it is what the pocket pivots on to open and close.
Pry them out a bit, you dont have to take them out completely.

see it removed and no longer holding the pocket cover in place

Now the pocket thingy itself is flexible (the black part) and if you look you will see what looks like 2 short poles on either side which guides the movement (shown on both sides in the next 2 pics). You want to get them out.

Put your left hand on the pocket, left and squeeze inwards (not too hard to break it but just hard enough to get it free).

Image

The left hand side should be removed first, pull the entire left half of the pocket towards you now removing half of the pocket and then the right.

Image

removed and out of the way

The view under there:

Remove the two of those by pulling forward, one my hand is on here:

Image

pull the underneath forward then downward

pics of in it to help you understand how to remove it better

and now...pull out le filter

That's up to you if u wanna edit it, but I suppose you could just make a separate thread so u could add the other parts to it as you go along. I'll just clean up the banter and merge if necessary and when you're done with that one, this one'll disappear.
