Car won't start :(

Postby MISHI » March 5th, 2005, 1:14 am

These days just keep getting better....Last week My car gave this grinding sound when I turned the starter, like it not engaging the engine...I actually had to push the car in gear until I got some resistance.

Now the damn thing will not start at all :( and now I hadda push the par in gear till I hear the engine turn over. I tried another starter, same results

A mechanic told me it's most likely the teeth on the flywheel is gone but I don't understand how it could have gone so fast. Could it be that the starter was not the right size? (but why it work all dis time?)

When I look at the starter I did see wear on the gears but only on the tips

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :( :( :(

Yep if the teeth have wear then it could cause that(That grinding noise). Also if the brushes in the starter go bad that can happen,so check that out it not that expensive.

UPDATE:

Well i got in touch with someone who changed to an engine just as mine. The guy who previously owned the car used the same starter, However, I spoke to the second owner and he told me that he had cause to use a Manual starter, as the inner piece supporting the bendix drive on the A/T starter was actually a bit short so he had a rough start just as I do.

So it's to find a Gearbox starter to see....
