Agreed and apologies. Totally my oversight. Perhaps I could make life easier for non-math inclined folk and just ask how many Km and what size tank?

Even in the US mechanics tell people to run without a thermostat sometimes, it's a terrible idea as stated, oil has to get up to proper temperature. Also some cars adjust spark timing based partially on coolant temp, so it can cause your car to run too rich and use more fuel. Also it's very important to use an OEM-only thermostat calibrated to the specific temp your engine needs to operate at, avoid the generics as they're set to a "safe" temp for several vehicles, as the same thermostat often fits in many cars.

In my work car (2001 Saturn SL2 1.9 DOHC I4, 5fwd manual fwd) I'm averaging 25mpg in the city and around 30mpg on the highway. That's with US 87 octane regular gasoline. 89 or 92 octane won't be any better as the car isn't calibrated for those fuels.

In my truck (2006 Ford F250 6.0 diesel 5fwd automatic 4x4) I'm averaging 15mpg in city and around 19mpg on the highway, keeping it as close to 1800 rpms as possible.

Current fuel prices here average $2.99USD for regular gasoline, and $3.65USD for diesel.

I swear something not right with the fuel....fkn thing burning off too quickly.....half tank (from full to half mark) usually yields 230-250km (with a/c on right through) but this last unipet fill I got 180km to the half....that is horrific!!!!

I think that's still poor though because...

What is your driving style?? Do you drive very fast most of the times??

In my B15 I try to limit my speed between 80km/hr to 120 km/hr. I sometimes give bursts of 140 to 170 km/hr to remind me of the QG15s capability as compared to newer vehicle.

Usually my route is up and down the western side of this country and sometime through its innards, and east coast.

Thats why I cannot complain of my car fuel consumption and reliability.

Driving not aggressively. Moderate acceleration. Try to get up to cruising speeds as fast as possible and set speed in cruise control to maintain speeds.

Staying in left lane except when overtaking. People tend to cut you off a lot in the right lane leading to braking and having to waste fuel accelerating again.

Cruise control even on main roads. Just set it to a reasonable speed depending on what is ahead I you.

Aircon set to 23-25 deg c.

Avoiding traffic. This is the most important factor. Stop and go traffic one day brought my mpg for one trip down from an average of 38 to 22. If it wasn't for that I'd have gotten even more than the 715km.

If you are truly a highway runner you might be able to get 800km out of this car if you set your max speed to 100kph. Even more without ac in the night and just fans blowing but that's a bit extreme.

On the flip side if u really zorce it this car will drink. Speeds of 160-215kph for extended highway runs have used up 1/3 of the tank over a distance of 180km so while engine and tranny tech can help fuel econ the way one drives has the greatest impact.

Yeah the 1.5 and 1.6 litre normally aspirated engines give really good fuel econ. Only I issue I have is that they slow as fcuk unfortunately.
