k&n oil filter

Postby rism » October 8th, 2012, 9:41 pm

Tuners, would like to know if the k&n oil filters are recommended for extended drain intervals....There are two types, the filters with the nut to the top, and the ordinary black ones, please advise me accordingly as to which is better

I don't think K&N oil filters are actually designed for extended drain intervals.. What they are designed to do is to have less flow restriction (in my humble opinion that correlates to less filtration)..

Yes they are a high quality design but they really are not made for that purpose..

Big Z on the forum sells Royal Purple extended life oil filters.

I use Bosch Distance Plus High Performance Oil Filters in my cars to allow a 10,000km oil change interval.

I'm with Rory on that.. Those two, Mobil 1 and the new Purolator synthetic filters will be excellent for long OCI...

ok, thanks for the advice guys, what kind of mileage you think the k&n filters can go to though? they have two type, one says its recommended for extended oil drain intervals, according to motor oil manufacturer, this is their pro series filter, the other is the one with the nut weldedd on top. The pro series is the cheaper of the two, so it kinda has me wondering about it....below is a link to the oil filters http://www.knfilters.com/oilfilter.htm. I did some research online, didnt find anyone hat actually use them for extended oci', but was wonderng if its possible to use them for that application...

I can't say for sure on the K+N "pro" but personally i'll just buy one of the recommended filters from above.. Easier to source and everyone knows what they are capable of
