check out this thread viewtopic.php?f=38&t=397860

It is a common problem, but ppl will continue to buy the Jetta as it screams "I have premium European taste but my 6 year bank loan can only stretch so far."

found this on the net, hope it helps, "I have had the same problem twice now! The first time I went to leave for work and the darn handle just wouldn't budge. I called roadside assistance to come get it to take to VW only problem was you cant tow a car that won't move! Called VW and they said there is a trick to get it into neutral. Turn the key slowly while moving it out of park that worked and it was towed and fixed quickly. They said it was some kind of computer issue. This was a few months ago and then it hapened again today right as I was leaving for work I didn't have time to mess with it so i just took my moms car to work. When i got home i tried the trick a few times and managed to get it into drive."

did you switch off before you put it in park? Mash brakes and try to shift while the engine is started and running. If it's like the renaults, there's an emergency release under the shifter housing dat will let you shift it, but I'm not sure about VW's. Best carry it back to the firm if it still under warranty, let them sort it out

It could be a faulty brake pedal switch. I've experienced this with a Bora. Replacing the switch solved the problem.

I would like to pre-empt all the negative comments about VW or Euros on a whole.

All new cars have varying chances of something going wrong. In fact, my Mazda 3 is going to be checked out this week for bad cold starting which the car sometimes cuts off.

Stephon. will not be pleased about your airing your "dirty laundry" about your Mazda3 on a public website. How dare you do that!

Stephon done know my grievances, but it is a good car. However give me a fiddly technologically advanced car than an antiquated Toyota.

*looks at gear shifter*. What is this "park" you speak of?

Jetta check BA asap and ask them to do the 37G7 update for your mechatronic unit. It may have to do with the position of a solenoid valve when you park. The software update changes the position the valve in park to (supposedly) prevent this issue from happening in future. The update is applicable to all DQ200 7 speed DSG trannies from all trannies made in say Apri 2012 or so.
