QG18DE EXTRACTORS ???

Postby G20 » March 7th, 2011, 8:25 pm

Reason for asking is that I installed a one a few years ago that I bought from a fellow Tuner ( the complete EXTRACTOR, FLEX JOINT, DOWN PIPE etc. ) and the hissing noise was not too prominent then as it is now. Now when I'm accelerating I'm getting a pretty irritating " Hissing " noise coming from the extractor itself....

The guys who installed it back then said that the noise would eventually go away after the walls are coated by the exhaust carbon, but that didn't happen.

Who has and what have you encountered ???

Thanks....

You sure it's not a leak somewhere causing it?

May be the flex joint itself. I get an annoying raspy hiss type noise from mine on my Mazda.

Noise was lessened by moving the joint down the piping but you can only move it so far.

Agreed. I was thinking about doing that as well, but I'll have to wait until w/end again to pull it off myself and see the condition of the joint.

Managed to speak to 3 muffler shops that said because of those full aftermarket kits ( stainless steel looking ones ) that are being sold are made of a much thinner quality pipe so you're going to get that hissing noise. The noise is actually " echoing " out thru the extractors and not flowing out thru the system....

Will take a look at it this w/end and update

It's years later....what was the eventual outcome ?

It's the material that the item is made from...the quality of the pipe is too thin...

It sounds like the hissing might be due to a leak or something not sealing properly. Even though the guys said the noise would go away, it might be worth checking for leaks or loose connections. Sometimes, even new parts need a bit of tweaking.

So it's 2025 and the extractor kit is still on and still going but finally it's time to change it cause it has gitten very thin and the hissing is too loud now....the material was too thin ( being aftermarket )

Looking for someone to build a good extractor for me now... possibly 4 into 1
