^^yes and no
the little more you pay is for something that you can't get down here and you choose to pay more cause of that fact
I import tyres on a fairly regualr basis btw and don't encourage unless the situation absolutly warrants it

I need to buy some tires for my car.
The specific sizes I NEED is to expensive down here....so i thinking bout importing them myself (which is no big deal for me).....

The application is NOT for racing or anyting...more or less comfort, don't want to much road noise but all round performance.

My Supplier abroad gave me the options below and i want to know if anyone has experience with these locally.

Toyo Proxes T1R
Goodyear Eagle F1

OR

(1/2 the prices of above)

Toyo Extensa HP
Dunlop SP Sport Maxx TT

Based on the reviews on Tire rack, I'd have gone with the SportMaxx TT.

For one thing, it's a higher class (Max performance vs the T1R's Ultra-high class) of tyre than the T1R, and it's about one of the best MPS class tyres around.

dadio
The Goodyear Eagle F1 assymetric are actually one of the best tyres in the world in terms of grip..
I have no idea if you are looking for a comfort tyre why you are shopping things so high performance?

You need to make up your mind.. If you want a VERY sporty tyre with massive grip, then thats the products listed..

If you want comfort and low noise you should ideally be looking at touring tyres such as the Bridgestone Turanza Serenity etc..

If you want the best of both worlds and are willing to import, Continental ExtremeContact DWS or DW .. THE BEST all round tyres on the market right now...

PS. DO NOT import something like a Toyo T1R when you can buy it down here....
If you are going to go thru the trouble and cost of importing.. Make it a truly special tyre.. eg. The aforementioned continentals and goodyear or Michelin Pilot Sport PS/2

^^ thanks for your advice.

Well locally, the tires the wheel shop recommeded in a package with the wheels i am looking at were NITTO and the 4 tyres alone came up to 9,900. They recommended that tire (or other high end tires in the same class) saying for the vehicle and the wheels I intend to buy , the cheaper tires don't normally hold out and cause shaking after a while in front etc. ( i dunno how true that is).
That price is actually not bad if someone was to actually import 4 tyres alone in a 1 shipment, and pay freight, duty, vat etc.

Anyway...so i contacted my supplier in Mia and they offered me those options based on the size given to me by the local shop. Importing not a major issue since i always have shipments coming in from Miami and it may not cost me any major setback except time.

Locally, the sizes I need are sort of hard to find....
If i have cheaper options, well they i will consider it.

Yea, rubber and chemicals was owned by Jr. Sammy.. They are no longer agents for Bridgestone and Firestone passenger and light truck tyres as far as I know..

Dadio, in all this you still haven't told me what size tyre, what kinda car etc....
You can't really get proper advice unless you give us some more specific information..
That said, $10,000 for four tyres is SERIOUS robbery unless you running some extreme size of tyre..
WHERE quoted you that price? You need to tell us these things instead of generalised info, thats the only way we can help you..

The front tyres are no problem, you have a choice of about 40 or more models in that size...
Including my two favourites, the Continental ExtremeContact DWS and DW

You still need to decide what sort of tyre you are looking for.. Personally i'll go for something slightly less sporty just so it'll last you relatively long, negating the need to buy a new set soon after..
Therefore I reccomend the DWS

Concerning the rears however, that exact size is pretty rare with only 6 or 7 models I have seen..
This is the only Nitto im seeing in that size
http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direc ... lse&cs=285
Not sure thats what you want if you are looking for comfort or treadlife...

Personally, I'd talk to whoever is your tyre shop about the possibility of switching to either 285/30/20 or 295/25/20...
Both of those sizes offer a bit more variety and allow you to consider the two mentioned continentals...

I personally own the DWS and its about as good as you will get for wet traction and comfort while still offering ultra high performance levels of grip..

The DW on the other hand is the highest rated tyre on tirerack and is known for supreme comfort, and wet and dry grip..
If you are importing, either of these two would be my recommendation...

If my calculations are right, a set of 4 conti's it will come up to somewhere between 850 and 920 US including shipping to Miami... Its just up to you how much freight and import charges will be and if its worth it..

thanks for all the info.

Yea well the wheels for those cars are staggered hence the variation in tire sizes.

I am looking for comfort and minimal road noise over anything else....i don't intend to be driving real hard or drifting or being sporty with my car.

I will get quote on those tires.

How do u rate those nitto's though?

Yea, I figured as much about the staggered wheels, that's not uncommon in larger or high perf cars.

I'm sure the Nitto's are excellent grip tyres but they are meant to be sporty, therefore you WILL probably get more road noise and less comfort than the comparable tyres ..

My advice would be (subject to price) to buy a set of 4 Continental ExtremeContact DWS from www.discounttiredirect.com
Forget tirerack and paying for shipping...

This is a high grip, excellent wet, comfortable, long wearing and most of all quiet tyre and it will definitely please you.....
I would AVOID the Goodyear Eagle F1 if you prioritise comfort and noise.. Its definitely a loud one.. Meant for ultimate grip..

I guess it has to do with teh V-tread pattern? No matter how you try, V treads always tend to be a bit louder than an assymmetrical tyre, or other non-v treads.

I guess this is where the Conti EC DW's shine (along with the Sport Contact 3's)....Conti doesn't use much of those V treads now do they? And their tyres are some of the quietestout there....don't think I've ever come across a review complaining about noise :D

Thats real hard Chemical... People run their businesses like if they doing you a favour for the most part... Shameful really, consumers should take some pride.. Oh well

Which Tyre Centre you went to? North or South? As I said, I usually have good dealings with south, with the only problem being stock issues...

The T1R is a great grip tyre but it probably wont last as long as the hankook.. Will probably also run you quite a bit more $$$

I asked R U sure & she confirmed.

Yes those toyo's are really top of the line. Don't know if i'm ready to spend that amt approx $1300/tire.

I wont go as far as to call the Toyo top of the line... For that price each $1300 they could keep it to be honest...
That is grossly overpriced for that size.. You just have to keep on shopping around and wait to see if anything shows up...
Price for price i'll just go with the Ecsta SPT at quoted from L&DG (i looked back a few pages)...
You won't regret the tyre. The toyo definitely isnt worth $1800 more for 4...

Concerning the tall indian girl, she is all smiles and laughs and giggles but cant really answer any questions about tyres..
When you down there, you really have to talk to the boss.. .If you in service, ask for Bisnath, the indian fella.. He is an excellent worker and I am amazed they have been able to retain him for so long..

^X2 - shopping for tyres in T&T is very, very frustrating and a total waste of time.

I went to that same south Tyre Centre sometime early in 2010 as I was in the market for tyres for my car.

I saw the V12 EVOs on display there, and my face lit up like a kid in a candy store. After reading so much good stuff about the tyre online, I was gaping heavily at the display tyre as it was the first time I'd seen one in real life. It was bright orange in colour, highlighting the technical info on the sidewall and tread pattern, as well as possibly to attract a customers' attention.

I examined it closely, and verified from my knowledge of the tire gained online and in magazines, saw it was in fact the real deal, with the same tread pattern, and V12 EVO, treadwear 280, traction AA, and temp A stamped on the sidewalls. "Finally!!!" I said, finding tyre I dreamed of the last few months.

By this time, the same tall girl comes over and asks if I needed any help. So I asked her what 17" sizes they had in this tyre (touching the display model). She proceeded to take me around the store and showed me 17" tyres in all different brands (Federal, Kumho, etc.) except the V12 EVOs :?

I said "Um, no, I meant 17" specifically in that Hankook tyre", again showing her display tyre. "Orrr in the Hankooks" she says. "Yes" I replied relieved.

She now proceeds to show me 17" sizes in all Hankook's different models (HR II, Optimo, etc.), again every one except the V12s :x. Quite upset at this point, I quite sternly (but politely) said "NO, NOT THOSE HANKOOKS. I MEANT 17" IN THIS SPECIFIC HANKOOK V12 EVO", and actually walked over, pointed to and touched the V12 EVO tyre on display.

She looks at me somewhat confused and, with all seriousness and sincerity, says "You mean you want an orange tyre?"   I just stared blankly at her and shook my head. I can't explain how I felt at this point. I was totally frustrated and outraged, but at the same time was holding back a laugh which I didn't want her to see.

Telling her "No, not an orange tyre, I meant this specific Hankook tyre model with this exact tread pattern in 17" size". She then confirmed that what she showed me was all the 17s they had.

A simple "Sorry, no 17s in the V12 EVOs" would have sufficed. At that point, I said "Thanks" and just turned and walked out the store.

Not that any of the other tyre shops are this bad, but they all leave a lot to be desired.

The only truly knowledgeable tyre shop I have dealt with in south is Ramrattan M.

In MM it improves as you go up the ladder (stairs) but at ground level they just there to do the work and install rubber..

Tyre Centre as I said, fairly useless when it comes to stock, pricing or giving you the info you want quickly... However, the service side runs much better (SOUTH)

Laughlin, average all round.. Nothing exceptional, nothing bad

Hercules on Cipero.. Don't even bother going there.. When a man try's to convince me that a DZ101 "Made in Japan" is better than the other DZ101 on the market and that he went to the US to test them on the track... You have to know is sh*t talk from a side!
