brake light remaining on!

I tried pulling up the pedal to see if it stuck but still nothing. even with the engine switched off they remained on.

I pulled out the fuse to take them off.

what could be causing this? them cheap $100.00 set of shoes that I put on out of desperation could cause this problem?

Look under the pedal you will see the bushing dry rot and fall off. replace it with a new one or a small nut and bolt

check any hardware for a piece of plastic or rubber that is about the same thickness and glue it on
i ghetto rigged mine with elec tape one time :lol:

Yup, in the rest position, there's a little lobe on the top of the pedal where that rubber button came from that's supposed to contact a tiny normally-closed push switch up under the dash.

The button dry rots eventually and the lobe doesn't push the switch so the brake light is on all the time. Just replace it or jimmy something to get it to contact the switch and you're good to go.

me & that vaggey is a long story. vagrant is one thing, this guy has been a nuisance to people & cars in the car park. he urinates through the hollow bricks unto cars & spmetimes throws objects like bottles at them. all attempts to provide betterment for him or relocation him have failed.

^^^ yeah could be, but we prefer to deal with the smaller problem first and check the rubber thingy

Stay Tuned, yup...all brake pedals have pretty much the same setup...with minor differences relating to the actual bolt-up

Hmmm...interesting info. This happened to me once with my AE80 corolla. I got it fixed eventually but i never knew what really caused it :roll:

well I woke up late this morning & ended up taking the chance to drive to work as I missed my bus.

I made a quick temp replacement out of an eraser here:

the original busted one is next to it in the above pic.

Ended doing some minor mods (some trimming around the edges of the eraser) to fit it. (my coworker has 1/4 eraser less now :mrgreen:

)

I held up till san fernando & busted out so I pulled in SSL & got a nut & bolt:

pretty DIY & cost's approx $5.00.

I'll look for a lock washer tomorrow & put it in.

The nut and bolt may destroy the switch every time the pedal springs back and hits the switch with any kind of force so get that sorted out ASAP before it costs u a switch.
U don't want to be sighing to urself saying "for want of a nail..."

Good fix, I had a similar problem in the accord and my cousin folled around with it and good it fixed up.. I gotta ask him what he did exactly

My only other thought is women in heels should be banned from driving! What kinda pedal modulation can you put down in those?

I revisited this thread too late saturday to get that valuable piece of info from Hook there, I guess the nut & bolt will have to work until thursday cuz I dont have spare time till then. :oops:

If it is a honda...Classic has for $25 - would not advise using nut and bolt as the switch will wear off instead and I'm sure it is more expensive and difficult to replace.

its sorted out but not the correct way. the nut & bolt will have to make do for now (next few days), the car home. thursday I will be riding out early so I will use the car to come to work, i'll get the bushing on my way home.

well I forgot to update this thread but yes I got the bushing since back then & sorted it out. Bought it for $20.00 by JP's in la romaine.
