Describe sound a lil better so we can figure out what it is. Ignition noise you say?

Check this series of webpages if they can help pinpoint the noise and better describe it to us.

Sounds like your engine is pinging..
Do a FULL service... injectors, throttle body.
Report in after.

insufficient fuel pressure/ bad fuel filter may cause u to lean out and get the pinging not so?

i think this is happening to me..cause i hear my fuel pump singing ever soo often soo im wondering if its dying slowly but surely
but i get mine at around 4500-6000rpm
and about 3000 upwards wit a/c on

u hit the nail on the head there...very common with the 4g15 as well.

Retarding the timing very little sometimes help when octane boosters dont.

ignition rattling

Postby quintessentiallyenigmatic » February 21st, 2008, 9:44 pm

thanks guys running premium now...still had 1/4 tank with super....getting less noise but still present....hoping another fill up might fully cure.....ny thoughts on using engine restore to help with noise.......recently serviced/tune up injectors /throttle body/ oil etc/ even changed fuel pump/coil packs/plug wires though not plugs/mech said it was fine.......can i tell if a vaccum leak exists or need to go to someone special....as u can see after that service i'm running a little lean in the pockets....also what oil to use 181186 miles

easiest way to find a vacuum leak is to get a can of carb cleaner and spray on the vacuum lines when the engine is running at normal operating temperature

spray one line at a time and listen out for changes in the tone/beat of the engine...if u get a change, thas the suspect line...inspect and secure or replace if necessary
