You DON'T need to change the bellhousing. the only conversion you have to do is fabricate the mount bracket and modify the drive-shaft. in addition to some minor electrical. does you car have the o/d tranny or 3-speed?

O/D....and I was told the bell housing would have to be changed, and when I offered it to the L28 the holes were slightly off.....what sort of work needs to be done to the driveshaft oldskool?...and electrical?....I saw what looks like the reverse switch and (possibly) and oil level sensor, but I could be wrong on the sensor......elaborate a little further....thanks

ok I can live with that....I was thinking that I may have to make some sort of adjustment with the splines.

No, it is likely that the yoke (spline thing) would have to change. I've used RB20 trannys on 280C gas and even diesels before, i know for a fact that RB, L-series (L18,L20,L24,L28...), CA18 and all; have the exact same bellhousing pattern. The yoke isn't a problem, its the same as the TD27, LD20-II. I have a sandwich plate for the L28, it could be offered onto the box just to make sure. The drive-shaft would have to be measured and modified by a machine shop after the g'box is installed.
