I would like your views on running a b18c with a b16a gearbox, I believe its a y11 but not certain.

Will the gear box hold out?

It should be more than able to hold out, the B18C is only about 10-20hp more than a B16a and about 30ft-lb torque more not nearly enough to destroy the gear box........
the gear ratio should be better though, faster acceleration but uses more gas

^ to add to CK if u planning on using a b16a or what ever b-series box ensure it has a LSD

i've got that setup..LSD box though..fun to drive, highway runs i suffer abit, cuz 4th & 5th are higher ratios than the S80..but it's responsive

Strength wise there is no difference... don't think honda did anything different with even the Type-r boxes (like forging, cryo-treating etc.) only the ratios are different.

I actually run a b16a gearbox with a b18c engine, no problems (knock wood) only upgrade I did was a forged MFactory LSD (which I can bring in) and it is the best upgrade on my car

You may want to change 5th and 4th gear to gsr if you do a lot of highway cruising though...

thank you for the advise guys, a guy told me he broke four b16a gearboxes with the b18c engine and b16a gearbox combination.

Based on his experience i was not willing to try the combination.

he said on one occasion he dropped a gear around a corner and powered out with the result of a broken box, and yes i believe it was a non lsd box

He would probably break the diff, gears hard to break... you can mess them and the syncrhos up if you grate them... but a b16a 2nd gear and a b18c 2nd gear are identical, so therefore anything that would break a b16a 2nd gear would also break a b18c 2nd gear

As for LSDs (if you are going that route - which I strongly recommend) avoid OBX... I broke one of those, get a MFactory Helical or Quaife. The MFactory will be a little cheaper and it is forged - the Quaife in NOT forged but has a good reputation

the OBX lsd is a very good lsd, there is a slight change to be made in the OBX lsd and it will last a long time like any other name brand lsd out there, it has been proven and still being in use as of today in 9 sec, cars. i can vouch on this cause i used one on my daily driver 10 sec civic, and many friends to prove the fact that the obx is great. if you ever get the OBX LSD please feel free to pm me and ill help u on what u need to do and then u will be on the road to happiness....the MFactory is a very good lsd as well proven. im also a dealer for the Mfactory lsd....have a great day....
