Want to increase power/speed of my b16a

Postby Novicecardude » June 7th, 2012, 11:26 pm

As the topic states i want to take some steps to increase my engine performance. I have an auto(shucks) b16a with the usual 2 to 1 extractors and 2.5in. exhaust. It goes to 200-220km/hr if needed.
If anyone knows who can give the engine a good service to improve performance or even some cost effective additions i can make to increase take off speed and overall power, all positive comments are welcomed. :P
Also which is the best turbo option for a B16a? and the price range i would be looking at. Thanks in advance HONDA people.

^ since you want best for $$$ Boost and gearbox ...

simple as those two word are look at $30k avg

the price will vary with the brand of parts you decide to choose

you can boost for as low as 10k but with a lot of used parts and a stock tune which is not nearly as reliable and will not give you the full power potential.

you can also use a turbo kit but you get little to no brand name parts and quality is iffy but there are some ppl who have used them on tuner so you can ask them. as for the money you save you should tune the car.

I was looking at the boosted b16a auto option for a while. and the cons where to much. cost was more that expected to do it PROPERLY the first time and auto tranny would of last probably 6 months or so.....

first thing you should do is change it to a manual get the gear box "best option is a n LSD box" and ECU..then use a good clutch kit and lightened fly wheel "lightened fly improves acceleration"
since you have an exhaust system already do and intake system as well, the best filter out is the Apexi Power Intake filter..get the engine serviced change all bad seals and gaskets run a good oil...that set up should give you some good trills, until your ready to spend money on Boosted power!

that's over 11-14k in parts and installing as simple as it looks that you called..

Its true that a manual gearbox would be wonderful, i believe once upon a time the car was manual. But as adriano points out a conversion for the b16a is quiet expensive, however not as expensive as boost...so if i were to spend some $$$ maybe the box should be the first option, and flywheel etc eventually. For now i will take your advice corolla kid and maybe change my filter and get the engine serviced properly like you said: seals etc.

Anyone know the best honda or engine maintainance guys around? someone who will do a good job and not overcharge as well.....hmmm just saying it seems fictional.

Any reviews/experiences with this guy? have heard some iffy things. I live close by and would be a good option to do work on my vic but very cautious about who i let fiddle with my car.
