Ok I have an EG8 MX with a d15b carb engine. My plan was to get an SiR front cut with the b16a and gearbox. This was to be done next year in the 1st 1/2. But I got water in my gas tank and all kinda crap happen with the engine. timing off, seals gone, air flow sensor busted. The mechanis say "bess u get another engine yes" He insists that I do, cuz the cost of fixing all that won't be smart in terms of cost. Plus my current engine is high on mileage.
Now I can't afford that front cut right now, but I need my car running soon. Foreign used center on evans st. by uwi there have a d15b vtec with tranny, ecu and harness.
I wanna know a few things.
1. Can I get a gearbox for this engine? Or is it as hard to get as the box for the B16A?
2. Kes, I wanted to use Hondata on the B16A, can I do it on this one?
3. What about parts for this engine.
I was thinkin about getting this engine and after about 18 months look for the b16a/b. Silvermike, is this the 1.5 you have? If this is as much fun tuning as it's bigger bro I won't mind taking it.
Edit: K I checked them and it has a gearbox with it

boy the d15b vtec is a good engine, i have a eg8 civic which had the same carb. engine and i swapped it to the d15b non vtec fom the ek3... it runs well, and the vtec will pull even better than mine, yes the gearbox would be easier to get than the b16a...the hard part would be gettin the shifter, pedals, etc and possibly the ecu, parts for these engines are plentiful, i am from south and i shop at i.n.s in penal for all my parts and alway get them, since u wanna change to gearbox, u can look for the complete minus the transmission cus yurs will be able to bolt up, also, yur ac compressor, alternator and power steering pump will be able to work on the d15b vtec, oh a next thing, you can use an external pump to supply fuel since yur gas tank does not have an internal pump...but unless you buya good one this can be trouble some, i got the complete fuel injected gas tank for mine and to me it worked better than the external pump i had on it before(less noisy and less vibration) anyhow i hope this helps you out

ohh thanks. Well the fuel pump is bad news there. The engine has a gearbox with it, harness and ecu. I'm assuming the ecu is for manual. I'll have to hunt for the other stuff I guess.. Thee's also an alternator with the engine so I wont use mine. My power steering pump busted so hadda get that.

I did this very same conversion last week - Good external fuel pump 1000-1200.
This is what I did. buy B14 gas tank - $100
Buy B14- Intank pump - $100
Take out your gas tank let radiator man cut off the pump/guage cover seating from the b14 gas tank and install it in your tank- you can use back the original gauge- don forget to plug the original gas tank hole - Cost -$150.00 Total $350 - works perfect - pm me if you need someone to do it for you.

Ok that was sold ( i feel is joker06

). Thanks riche. Thas the rambo like movements i like.

Someone offered me a d15b 3 stage with cvt and multimatic. He told me one of the mounts might not line up in my eg8. That's true? X2?
What about the speedo and tach? will mine work with it? I'm getting the ecu and harness to it from the engine.

sorry... dunno much about the CVT mounts.
If you get the d15b with a tranny, lemme know... lookin for an auto box.
Sky... consider this... save your money on the b16a and buy a d15b (or d16 if you could get)... just scavenge all the parts you need to fix your current engine... then with the money you're saving for the b16a... use it to build the other d block on the side (pistons, rods, new seals and gaskets).
Since ur going hondata, you can easily strap a snail onto that exhaust manifold on a built d block and laugh at the b16 guys.

Actually X2, I've changed my plan for the B16a. Yes it's a wonderful engine and so on. But it's getting really expensive to maintain one if I even get one. Yes its ultimately slower than the b16, both N/A, but I think i'll have more fun tuning a D15. If by snail you mean turbo, I'm gonna hold off on that for a long time. Thz for the advice tho. I wasnt planning to change pistons, rods etc but thats the plan now

sky- i was in the same predicament as you both financially and problem proned with my carb engine - I wasnt too keen on installing the d15b vtec engine because i really wanted the b16 and was even thinkin about a b18c which i saw. but due to budget constraints i had to settle with the d15b- it has been 2 weeks now and let me tell you bro every little mod you do to this engine only makes it faster and more responsive- and with the entire conversion to date i have not yet cross $5k - I am getting a box weekend and most people dont know it but you can use the tranny ecu - Just my 2 cents.

Hmm, how much u paid for the conversion? Someone told me $2500. Today i checked someone else and he said $1800. He said $600 before cuz i was looking for a front cut and he'd have no complications. But now with an engine mount off and the speedo etc.. not being for that engine. Is that a good price, or too much? As I said, I'm getting the ecu and whole harness for it. Just to plug in.
one mount have to do over and i need a fuel pump put in my tank.
One more thing.....can an EK dash fit in an EG? >_>
cost of conversion

withhout any complications the cost to install the engine should be 500max and to rewire should be around 300-500 depending where you go. I took out my old engine myself and also put in the new one. i got the complete harness with speedo as well so i was able to install this myself as well I only paid an electrician 400 to jack in everything in the right place. if your speed goes up to 9000rpm that should work but you will need the harness it will plug in in your panel.

Ok the guy I'm getting the engine from, he also has the dash. I asked for the speedo etc, but he wants to sell the whole dash with the speedo. Maybe I can buy the dash also, use all the wires in it. I'm supposed to be an auto electrician lol. So maybe if i take down the electrical, i'll know how to put it back up. And I wanna do the gas tank thing you did. pm me your # plz. I just wanna cut costs on the swp cuz if is $500 max with no complications, doing over one mount and installing a fuel pump shouldn't be $1800 jed.
With that extra $ I could buy Silvermike's headers if he still has it.

hey, now saw this thread..sorry for the late reply.
i have tuned a b16a and a d15b. last year i had a b16, type r cams, spoon ecu and a vafc for tuning... got up to 155whp and ran a 15.6@90mph.
this year i focused on the d15 after i sold the SiR after a sorta-supercharged endevour. so far i got 116whp from the D and i ran a 15.7 on a stripped chaisis.
imo the d15 is the better daily driver and i have just as much fuun tuning it as i did with the b16. Parts are cheaper for sure...more available and gas consupmtion is great.... i et over 400kms for a 100 bucks gas at my surrent tune.
dont get me wrong... a well tuned b-series will cut my ass, but im not done tuning her yet

The headers i have to sell are still there... they arent the best in the world... but imo they perform better than i would expect them too.
I havent got around to retune and dyno since i put in the dc sports, but the car feels about the same. go figure
