S40 gear box problem

Postby hatch back snail » May 11th, 2010, 1:11 pm

Guys, I did a clutch change recently, at the same time i shaved the flywheel a bit(skimmed it) reused the pressure plate. But when everything was reassembled no clutch no matter what adjustment was made.Mind you everything basically stock on the box.Ok figured was the flywheel, ended up changing flywheel(slightly used),clutch plate(new),pressure plate(slightly used), (all stock) ,release bearing(new),pilot bearing(new),master cylinder kit and installed a fabricated adjuster on the slave cylinder rod, also with honda gear box fluid...............Still not disenguaging :? Prier to this the gearbox was working fine. Anyone has any ideas

Sounds like you need to have the clutch pedal adjusted.

Adjustment on the pedal was made till there was no more adjustment, clutch master cylinder was bled repeatedly ( i guess the master cylinder is assembled correct because it doesn't take as long to bleed the air out as before, couple of strokes an the pedal starts to come up) as well as slave cylinder.Clutch pedal feels firm(not soft at all).As soon as the pedal is touched, there is movement on the rod on the slave.

There is supposed to be some free play on the clutch pedal (1-2 inches) before you feel the pedal stiffen (when the clutch actually disengages).

Read through the link I posted above.

if the hydraulics are working correctly, you may have a mechanical fitament issue.you will have to take back down the gearbox & inspect the clutch fork/trow-out bearing, pressure plate & disc(i don,t think it,s possible to install the clutch disc incorrectly). that,s all i can think of,good luck.

Same i was thinking, maybe the height or specs of the pressure plate & clutch disc and flywheel should not be mated together. Will proably take down the box by wkend. Will post findings then.
