Check yuh knock sensor. Don't know if the ZL has one but i had a similar problem on a ZM and it turned out to be a faulty knock sensor. If it has one check to see if the insulation is melted, if so you should change for the upgraded sensor with the black wire...my two cents.

If your knock has the black wire then that's the updated one. You sure it's not a piece of black insulaton over...

Well i think i got the problem sorted out. I don't know if that was really the cause but since changing my ac condenser fan the problem has ceased. Haven't done anything besides that and ain't get to buy knock sensor yet but so far after replacing fan no bogging down when pulling off from a stop. Tr...

Took a look at my knock sensor last weekend and did notice that black tar substance leaking out so i guess i need a new one. Also noticed that ac condenser fan not coming on all the time, if you give it a nudge it will start spinning. Would a combination of those two things cause the acceleration pr...

OK so i took it on Saturday to get it scanned and lo and behold no error codes. The guy who did the scan also said that the maf sensor could be giving trouble intermittently hence the reason no codes appearing yet. Step up unit working as it should. Someone suggested that it could have been a dose o...

I have changed tranny fluid twice within the past year and also added Wynn's Transgrip. I don't play when it comes to those things. The thing is with the ac off it runs well and i can feel it shifting normally but i'm no mechanic so i'll take it for a diagnostic this weekend and see what happens. Th...

Accelaration Problem with AC on

I'm new to this forum so please bear with me. I own a 2003 Protege 1.6L DOHC Automatic. The problem i'm having is that while driving with AC on if i try to accelerate quickly the car seems to bog down and you can hear and feel it from the engine as if it doesn't want to shift gears. However if i pre...
