Hearing Rawle Mahabir died, any confirmation?

Postby Duane 3NE 2NR » January 2nd, 2019, 9:27 am

Yes Rawle Mahabir passed away this morning. He was very well known in the motorsport fraternity for his role in AutoSport promotions and AutoSport Racing Association for the past 2 decades. He would have been 70 years old but was still very active in motorsport and especially recently as the President of the Trinidad & Tobago Automobile Association, the FIA ASN for Mobility.

Rawle was an avid stages and navigational rally driver and administrator in regional motorsport.

AutoSport Promotions Ltd held drag racing, rally, circuit racing in the 90’s and 2000’s and more recently the Drag & Wind series at ARC.

AutoSport ran events up the islands as well.

Rawle was also very active in the Red Cross and was a proponent of the Blood Bank. He ran a blood donation thread on TriniTuner for over a decade. He was very much involved in helping others. Up to Dec 20th 2018 he was part of a group that organised to have eye surgery done for someone in need.

Rest in eternal peace Rawle. Our heartfelt condolences to his friends and family.

RIP to a good man, always a pleasure dealing with Rawle, was such a measured polite and embracing gentleman..

As me and many tuners of my era and age group are at a stage where many people we knew while coming up are passing away or have passed away,it's a very humbling realization especially how we are now the ones in that transition and being observed by another generation, today you are here tomorrow you are gone,no one person or group of people are the ultimate ,you cannot please everyone and you will have negative experiences with people along the way but you will also make new alliances, and when you yourself die people will say good things and bad things about you but they will also meet the same fate and scrutiny lest they know.

Life is an ever changing process and people will come and go as you get older, don't take it too seriously it's temporary it always was,the best plan is solidify your family and make them self sufficient so when the inevitable arrives your real legacy would be intact tangible and relevant.

I first met Rawle Mahabir back when he was handling the Texaco rally. I had no clue about marshalling, and he was one of two people who bothered to take the time to give me some guidance, the other being Gayaz. When I started doing Solodex events, there was Rawle again, always with a smile, lots of advice, and jokes about my car. I remember visiting him on occasion to share video footage from Solodex events, and he was always a patient gentleman. Actually it was Rawle who introduced me to Solodex, recognising that I was disillusioned with the way rally was going

One of my fondest memories of Rawle was at the first Drag& Wind event I competed in. I asked him what would stop a car crossing over to the other lane. He smiled and said 'boy why you always hadda come wid dem hard questions?'
Of course I was the clown to take a stupid line into the roundabout, and almost rolled my car. Rawle came up to me and said 'you just had to go and prove it eh' We both had a hearty laugh.

His calm demeanour defused many a sticky situation. Another memory was of Razkal and I having an argument with a canadian at his D&W event at the stadium. That fatherly way about him brought everything to an amicable resolution
The last time I spoke to Rawle was at Cars&Coffee in Space, late 2017. It was an unexpected surprise to see him there, and we had a good laugh as always. Hindsight being 20-20, I can't believe it's been over a year since we had that laugh...
Thanks for the memories, Uncle Rawle, and the patience too

In the late 90's and early 2000's Rawle Mahabir was the one who guided us at TriniTuner and Zorce as we started off covering motorsport events. He was also the one who introduced us to the STAG brand that would play a major role in motor racing in T&T for well over a decade.

May you rest in peace Mr. Rawle Mahabir, condolences to the family.

My first interaction with Rawle maybe 15-20 years ago, when drag racing was at its peak some would say. On the Wallerfield North Track.

He always had time for a word of guidance for a new team or new racer. A very good administrator and served the motorsport community very well.
