Took the PNM Govt long enough to do this ... this was the fear last election that the facility would be taken back ... hope the powers that be who rallied so hard for the PP last election ... have their war chest of funds ready to fight this out in court. If not it is gone for good.

TTASA has not been evicted so far.
No mention of eviction was stated at the TTASA monthly meeting on Wednesday 12th September 2018.
TTASA management said for the past three weeks negotiations have been ongoing between TTASA and the Ministry of Sport, Ministry of Trade and Eteck regarding tenure.

Negotiations are ongoing to secure a license or lease for a period of 6 months to two years.
TTASA will issue a formal release soon.

Would be surprised if this ends in a resolution satisfactory to TTASA.

No. Alutech is resuming the work on their plant at that location

Govt agrees to restart Alutech

Alutech produces aluminium rims and other downstream products using patented technology. Alutrint Smelter was to have produced hot metal for Alutech to make a number of downstream products, including wheel rims. Asked where the material will now come from, Olivierre said the project will require "imported ingots" for the production of the downstream products.

The Alutech centre was to be the first of its kind in the Caribbean with robots playing a key role in the manufacture of pressed aluminium coils, billets and wheel rims.

Alutech also boasts that the technology used for the industrial production of cast aluminium products allows for minimum waste and a high degree of precision using highly calibrated and automated machinery.

Why disregard the real efforts and contributions made over the last few years by individuals who in the most part love a sport which can generate some positives.
There is enough 'room' in the particular area to facilitate multiple uses.
Why just continue with an attitude of punishment.
Yes, insist on standards, accountability and everything else all recognized sporting bodies must demonstrate (btw set the example including the 'boat') but don't put the hurt on another 1000's of your own people.
…...These folks just don't get it.

Hope all goes well for motor sport and its stakeholders (which include the gov't).
Etech could certainly gone about this in a more progressive manner.

That letter doesnt sound very convincing given the history with "talks" with government ministers in the past for like what over 20 years now??

that doesnt sound good at all seeing all they do is "communicating" and "holding talks".
i await on the next level of talk they going to say - " i have been advised" or "we will take it under advisement".

quick question thou.... what is going to happen to all the good that was done to the location recently - the barriers and fixing of surfaces and stands & such ?

are they going to let it fall into disrepair once more for a few years again.... and then the government will change.... policies will change and also a "new talk will be held with " key stake holders" and a new lease MAY be given ???

No more drag racing, drifting, karting, motorbikes at Wallerfield

ETECK blanks 3000 racers

When racers last left the Frankie Boodram Wallerfield International Raceway ((FBWIR)) on August 11, they had no idea that it would be the last time that they would race at the facility.

Jameer Ali, vice-president of the T&T Automobile Sports Association (TTASA), the national governing body for motorsports in T&T, confirmed that his association was informed by Evolving Technologies and Enterprise Development Company Limited (eTecK) that its six-month license to use the Wallerfield premises expired on August 20 and that it will not be renewed.

On August 15, TTASA's requested an extension of the license period for two years to use the premises. In reply, eTeck stated in a letter that the license agreement which was executed between the parties contained a definite term of six months from February 21, 2018

The letter stated: "The License Agreement, therefore, comes to an end August 20, 2018, and did not contain within any option for a renewal of the term nor any option for an extension. eTeck, therefore, will not be granting an extension or renewal to TTASA."

The Wallerfield premises, which is managed by eTeck and falls under the Ministry of Trade and Investment, cater for a membership of 3,000 according to Ali, who said that the TTASA reached out to both the Trade and Investment Minister, Paula Gopee-Scoon and the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Shamfa Cudjoe for assistance.

"Minister Cudjoe accepted our request and after attentively listening to our concerns, she assured us that an expedited letter of support would be sent to the Minister of Trade and Investment for intervention on this matter," said Ali. "The Minister of Trade and Investment, the honourable Mrs Paula Gopee-Scoon has also communicated her willingness to work towards a reasonable solution."

It is alleged that the issue may have arisen due to government's plan to develop the Wallerfield property.

"We feel encouraged that both Ministers are considering our progress at the FBWIR and are truly committed to resolving this matter for us. We have expressed our dream of acquiring a permanent home for motorsports and our willingness to discuss the future of our beloved sport in T&T," said Ali, who assured that TTASA is working diligently to retain the facility and have its license to use the premises renewed to continue the great work of the association.

In 2014, TTASA got a two-year license to use the Wallerfield premises, paying TT$200,000 per year plus value-added tax (VAT). When that agreement expired eTeck lessen its license to one year then to a six-month period, ending last month. During the past four years, TTASA took the underdeveloped property and upgraded it, to become one of the premier racing track facility in the region.

"The race course is one of the best in the Caribbean behind Barbados, whose government has invested in motor racing and has brought them a lot of revenue," said Ali. "We run international and local events, bringing in revenue so we are self-sufficient. We do not rely on the government for anything."

Ali went on to boast of how well T&T drivers have been doing on the Caribbean and international circuit.

"We have produced some of the best drivers in the Caribbean," he said. "We have drivers who have the potential to become F1 (Formula1) drivers like Zachary Boodram and Cristian Boodramsingh, who competed in the Formula4 in Mexico. We also have Sheldon and Andy Bissessar who have been doing well. The list goes on and on.

"T&T has won the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship two times and this year with the last race in November. T&T leads the Championship on points."

The next big event for TTASA is carded for Republic Day, September 24.

"We also have racing every weekend till Christmas. We have local championships in drag racing, drifting, circuit racing, karting, motorbikes racing and time attack.

So, TTASA will be hoping for a quick resolution to get back on track and race.

Yesterday, a video was circulated on social media under the title: "TTASA evicted from Wallerfield", but Ali confirmed that his association played no part in the video.

"TTASA did not contribute to this video and we remain supportive of our honourable Ministers in this matter. This matter was addressed at the TTASA's membership monthly meeting this week where the facts of the lease issue were brought up. Many members and well-wishers are now expressing frustration because we are unable to access the facility but we kindly ask for your patience and good wishes for a favourable outcome."

when they gave allyuh camden, allyuh take it like dog looking for dog bone.

the time to fight this was then, when it was fresh. the second time was when 2 pull man was talking to allyuh, fresh out of the PP election win. they held the SFGP that was a huge success. could have rode that wave to secure wallerfield.

but no, too much ah allyuh want to be the man in charge, and if not then nothing. well, 1 from 10 leaves 0

allyuh look for what allyuh get.

From that article it was clear that use of Wallerfield was always going to be temporary. Dunno why all the beat up.

You can see the proposed location for Alutech here adjacent to the area that was licensed to TTASA to use as a race track:

Can you or others break this down more? Not knowledgeable of the whole issue at Wallerfield.

When racing started in Wallerfield? How come this racetrack was never secured? Were there alternatives for a racetrack somewhere else? Nobody decided to put together a fund and buy lands elsewhere?
