don't mean to challenge the lawyers, touts, and general experts, but since the maxi taxi issue raised the most eyebrows on here, perhaps I can get some clarification.

Proposed:
177. (1) An operator of a maxi-taxi shall not use a television, video
equipment, digital versatile disc player, radio, tape deck, compact disc player,
amplifier, equalizer, speaker or other electrical or electronic equipment for the
purpose of playing music or other electrically or electronically transmitted sounds
or images in a maxi-taxi.
(2) Notwithstanding subsection (1), the Authority may by Order and
subject to the approval of the Minister, prescribe the conditions and technical
specifications of a radio to be used in a maxi-taxi.
(3) A person who contravenes subsection (1) or any condition on the
use of a radio in a maxi-taxi as prescribed under subsection (2) commits an
offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of ten thousand dollars.

Existing:
http://rgd.legalaffairs.gov.tt/laws2/al ... /48.53.pdf
12A. (1) Subject to subsection (2) the use of televisions,
videos, radios, tape decks, compact disc players, amplifiers,
equalisers, speakers or other electrical or electronic equipment
for the purpose of playing music or other electrically or
electronically transmitted sounds in a maxi-taxi is prohibited.
(2) Subject to such conditions and technical
specifications as the Administering Authority may by Order
prescribe, the use of a radio is permitted in a maxi-taxi.
(3) A person who contravenes subsection (1) or (2)
commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine
of five thousand dollars.

Where exactly is the problem here?

so the clarification goes to show lack of law enforcement then, ok carry on folks. Are cameras video equipment though? A lot of maxis are now using cameras and their head unit screens as monitors and for GPS.

Why are national consultations being held at such inconvenient locations and times, they should spread them out so a large majority of people can attend.

they more intended for inspection stations, rental companies, NGOs, boards etc........

the advertisement is just for public awareness.....

only issue we have with that whole act is more or less unauthorized lights......

Full article above...excerpts below

TRANSPORT Minister Stephen Cadiz said yesterday that by September, a newly-designed licence plate, drivers’ permit, and new centres for the registration and licensing of vehicles will become available.
Cadiz made the disclosure at a public consultation where the proposed Motor Vehicle Authority (MVA) Bill was introduced to the public.

In addition, restrictions will be placed on new drivers who will not be able to drive between midnight and 5 a.m. unless the person is accompanied by an experienced driver who is not under the influence of any narcotic or alcohol.
A point system will be implemented, whereby the driver will have demerit points for offences committed which can lead to suspension of the driver’s licence.
Repeat offenders would have to pay heavy penalties or risk having their licence suspended or revoked.
The new driver’s licence will have a bar code which can be scanned by police on the roadside. Information to be included on the new driver’s licence are name, address, driver licence number, class of vehicle to be driven, and blood grouping.
The MVA will see the introduction of new number plates, which will come in 18 designs, with security markings to be manufactured abroad.

Can't wait for implementation. I hope with more places to license vehicles that will also mean more places to have T vehicles inspected as well.

Will they have traffic light cameras, radar guns, tint meters etc by September also? Or will it be another fancy law with no backbone. The problem with laws in T&T will always boil down to enforcement and those traffic wardens are useless. It amazes me that they watch people parked in their private cars on marked taxi stands and do not warn them or give a ticket yet when my bro in law pulled aside for my pregnant sis to vomit they ran up and dropped a ticket on him saying he could not park where he was.
