Gang leaders Association of Port of Spain write to Police Commissioner

Postby Duane 3NE 2NR » January 19th, 2021, 9:14 am

Port-of-Spain-based gang leaders are seeking to assure the public that there’s no need to worry about a war breaking out in the streets of the capital city. They claim they have bigger, more positive plans in mind.

In a press release sent to Guardian Media yesterday, the group calling themselves “All Bosses” labelled recent viral Whatsapp messages shared over the weekend, which warned of impending upheaval in the city because an existing truce had fallen apart, propaganda. They said a peace deal between gangs, signed in July 2020, is still in effect and remains firm.

“The truce will hold irrespective of any propaganda, any institutional attempts to use us as scapegoats or attempts to divide and conquer the streets. We come to the community in peace; we are only a threat to those that seek to prevent our legal development,” the group said via an attorney.

The gang leaders said transitioning from war to peace is challenging but they are trying to ensure that: young people find alternative pathways from participating in illegal activity, that violence is reduced through influential mediators and that females are not victimised or abused.

The intent, they said, is to remain united in an effort to resolve economic hardship in deprived areas.

They lamented that housing conditions in these communities are stark, while employment is non-existent.

“It is our young people that are exposed to poverty and oppression, deliberately in some cases. At some point, we must look to our own skills to keep our streets safe. In the realisation, we still need assistance and these requests to policymakers receive a minimal response,” the release said.

The group extended an invitation to any individual willing to bring employment and resources to impoverished areas.

Meanwhile, according to activist and director of the Black Agenda Project Dr David Muhammad, misinformation is being deliberately spread to undermine the peace deal.

“We condemn that and we call on the public to be a lot more responsible in circulating unverified, unconfirmed reports, especially like these – that can or have the potential to create conflict where there is none,” Muhammad said.

Muhammad said it’s no secret that these kinds of strategies were used to achieve certain objectives in East Port-of-Spain communities previously. The attempt is to destabilise the community and provoke confrontation between the gangs, the author and university lecturer added.

“(In the last six months) the East Port-of-Spain, Laventille, Morvant community has been free of the kind of spate of gang killings that have been present over the last decade and a half … Sometimes, it takes something as simple as propaganda to, once again, reignite the conflict that many have worked so hard to end,” he warned.

Named in the viral Whatsapp messages, Trinibad artist Tarryl “Prince Swanny” Swan also denied any connection to the alleged plot. Saying he is an advocate for peace, the musician said his focus remains solely on music and uplifting the nation’s youth.

Seeking further comment, Guardian Media was told by Prince Swanny’s manager that he had nothing further to say. She added that the matter is now being dealt with by her client’s attorneys.

Isn't there some kinda anti gang bill? Shouldn't the whole association be arrested under such or at least for being idiots?

Yes there is an anti gang bill, but not an Anti Gang Act.

Because UNC believes it will infringe on the rights of civil societies like All Bosses and other gangs throughout the country. Thank God for the rising sun.

you forgot to call them "unpatriotic underminers"

you forgot to accuse them of "wanting the country to fail"

you should have typed that

because you know - that has not gotten stale

as far as i know there are laws to deal with murder rape stealing and so on and so

but anyway while what you posted there

serves to keep the party faithful

faithful

the truth is - if the pnm wanted to end criminal gang activity in this country - they would -

stop calling everybody who have an opinion or question about procurement legislation a "seditious unpatriotic underminer"
end government involvement in arts culture sports and entertainment
end government involvement in house construction
shut down urp and cepep
end gate completely and revise scholarship policy (open schol for postgraduate only for example)
end government white collar -make-work schemes ( ngo and community groups are much more efficient than ministry of social development for example )
completely legalise all plant like substances
eliminate minimum wage for anyone under the age of 21
zero zero zero tolerance on illegal immigration ( that does not mean floating machine gun turrets along the maritime border - it mean jail for employers who hire illegal immigrants )

and implement universal basic income

marlene case call yet ?

what about stuwie daughter ? where she ?

and the men they catch who kidnap the white woman. where that case reach ?

Postby MaxPower » January 19th, 2021, 12:37 pm

Why are Gangs even allowed to have a voice?

There is the court system for that.

What are these gangs who are “assuring the public” doing about the daily attacks on our civilians?

Jokers yes

Trinidad really is the sh!thole of the caribbean, no wonder we are where we are.

Men take over the country and we let them go, give them pardon, then give them land and they entitled to their opinions and voices.
Man was were in control of multi million companies and their investments fly out and tek the money , investors lose everything, and then same men abroad say they sick and leave them alone.
Men own land that govt needs for expansion, he family gets overcompensated, and the neighbor next door gets evicted and his land value is comparable to dog sh1t...
Men coming into the place ILEGALLY from south amerika and then suing the state to stay and have more rights and powers than locals.
Man applying leff, ruight and center to come back home and being denied, BUT ah mans dog got permission before all ah dem,,,

Now Gangs have an Association , and can voice their opinions and be entitled to do so?

:drinking: :drinking: :drinking: :drinking: dat about sums up we chithole country.. Anything Illegal is now possible.

As funny as it seems this is something that should be embraced,it simply means that those people are open to peace and alternatives, the ironic thing is that seemingly decent people are the ones that remain cynical .

Like it or not Trini criminals generally are among the better ones ..they're nothing like criminals from other countries..

What ideas or alternatives do you have to offer to solve the problems? And because thy call themselves an association it doesn't make them one,are they registered ?

You fall for that? Lol..

T&T and Trinis are well respected in the region by the way and our criminals are harder on fellow criminals than decent people, not so in many other countries where everyone is collateral for criminals, even right here in the caribbean..

Bring solutions and ideas ,enough of the boring rhetoric now pal,and you can migrate to some place else if you feel so strongly about it, where they will treat you like shiiit simply for being brown...but life too sweet here and you know it, get over the self loathing pal..

Offer some solutions ,most selfish Trinis only care about their 4 walls and nothing else ,and cant see beyond thier own noses so it's easy to put down the entire country without offering solutions or ideas....

Study big shiithole USA about 'not negotiating with terrorists' ,they so good at it they supply their favorite terrorists with training and equipment ,even manpads..

Bat in allyuh crease,if these gangs are a problem and willing to dialogue then they should be engaged..they're already here due to missteps by previous administrations and social conditions, and they are well armed and for the most part are very restrained..

Keep on allyuh high horse and play you dont want those in authority to engage them for the greater good all while not being able to back all that talk up..like I said Trini crkminals are very easy to get around and this is an opportunity that can lead to many positives..

Sometimes man just wanna be heard and shown some respect and they would go the distance and make changes.
