What I've noticed is that as a storm strengthens in the Atlantic it starts to turn north.
Gonazalo was weak as it seemed to be fighting with dry air from a huge Saharan dust plume north of it and wind shear so it kept a straight line path, not strengthening and turning. Since most storms form around the 10ºN line, it headed straight for us.

Let's hope that's not the trend for this season

we noticed that same thing. as it organizes, it veers north. but if it keeps west, it tends to remain unpowered.
to me it looks like, if doesnt have energy, it stays in the path of the itcz. but if it gets energy, it moves more with the Coriolis effect . sea temps vs isobars.

Some cracking thunder Grande side. The rain isn't much even though the sky is dark and brooding.

Is this the system that was supposed to reach us Wednesday, the one that was behind Gonzalo?

If the weather is set up like this since yesterday and no rain, it means there is probably Saharan dust as a mitigating factor.

We desperately need the rain.

Wind and clouds moving south to north over Trinidad. The system seems to be pulling everything towards itself.

Storms are huge vacuums. Lower the pressure is, the more they suck wind and moisture into them. It's really interesting how that allows them to grow bigger and bigger once conditions are right.
