Rod and reel. The fish is in the foreground in that pic which makes it look larger than it really is scalewise.

Yup. There's 2 routes, line capacity and drag. You want both at your disposal anyway but,
https://www.marlinmag.com/igfa-fishing-records/
If you take a look at marlin records for example, you find anglers who chase records with line classes ranging 4-20lb test.
That's 20lb test catching a fish 1000+ lbs. You basically run the fish to death by exhaustion.
The approach for bft is alot different mainly because of it's stamina as well as detrimental value of a sustained fight. The high drag route is putting 70+ lbs of drag on big bluefin and getting them in quickly. Bluefins are actually endothermic and generate their own heat, that in conjunction with a long fight and lactic acid buildup ends up with a fish that can practically cook itself, and that's a no go for quality concerns in the sushi market which is what gives them their value to begin with.

Oh no, nice shark too bad it didn't survive.

Out of curiosity if it didn't die from being wrapped in the line would it have survived the ascent from that depth?

A little change from the current topic, anyone do surf, rock and jetty fishing? Looking for advice for two rods to really distance cast lures on one, and 6-10 oz lead on the other. The way shipping is in TT now, it must be available here.

Yeah like he said, you don't really ever see barotrauma in sharks, or rays for that matter- at least not that I've witnessed. Jacks/Carangids are another group that I actually know have a specific mechanism for dealing with rapid ascent and descent for predation purposes. You notice it when they chase a bait up from the deep and you see bubbles emanating from gill cavity.
https://link.springer.com/article/10.10 ... e-renderer

Also if the fight is hard and you're not blasting them up, you tend to see the fish actually equalise and be ok.

1st option: mankee ( prices are cheaper than importing via skybox )

2nd option: the tackle shop located in point cumana after glencoe
