DE STAGE NOT GOOD AGAAAAAIIINNNN!! - UDECOTT

Postby Monk BANzai » February 14th, 2020, 12:58 am

Udecott halts stage construction at Maracas Bay

https://newsday.co.tt/2020/02/13/udecot ... racas-bay/

"The organisers are attempting to build a stage in the water. I am now getting wind of social media reaction to it so I am now getting briefed on it. We would have gotten approval from the (Port-of-Spain) City Corporation, but there are various approvals from the police, fire, the EMA (Environmental Management Authority), Commissioner of State Lands. We are still awaiting certification from the Coast Guard.

"The area was shown to Udecott as well and the understanding is that the stage needs to go up early so that it will settle properly. They said it needs three days to settle in the water, so if there is any movement it will give us time to break down and move it. The aim is not to have any issues when the event starts."

Sobion said it was the first time the group was attempting such a project.

hehehehe.... but get this right:

"The North Coast beach was the location for the Karukera One Love Festival, a collaboration between the government of Guadeloupe and TT. Karukera is a music festival from Guadeloupe that was created to connect all the Caribbean islands by showcasing the diversity of our music on a stage on the ocean."

That scaffolding will likely sink into the sand and be impossible to remove, becoming a permanent underwater hazard. One has to wonder who was the genius that approved this construction.

Super. concept. Thus far poor design. For a beach such as Maracas with strong wave action it would be better with a controlled float.

Its amazing that they actually thought that type of structure would work....extremely dumb thinking......an anchored barge would have been perfect and less damaging to the beach.

Maracas is not San Juan Laventille Reg Corp? Maybe they were the authorizers.

I can't believe they actually though that scaffolding would work or be appropriate,

I mean honestly when you think of a platform on the water don't you usually associate it with at the very least a pontoon of some sort, or a barge.

I mean this is an oil and gas country, with assets and operation offshore, you're telling me no one though about using a (casing) barge. Offshore oilmen might be glad for the job.

When I first saw the advert for the fete, I was intrigued to find out how the stage would be set up...never thought this would be the approach. I'm sure persons purchased tickets already...

I would like to join you and say that I hope they float away for good but their families will burn tyres and engage roget to rake in millions worth in compensation which will set taxpayers back even more.

and with good reason...see nothing wrong in seeking compensation for a flawed execution plan that didnt mitigate risk...
