Licensing office refused Birth Certificate

Postby Ben_spanna » April 15th, 2021, 11:08 am

Yesterday was talking to someone who had just came back from the Licensing office of Trinidad , they took their grandchild to get their learners permit and they were told that a Birth Certificate was NOT an acceptable form of ID for the 17 year old in question.

I would have thought that an Original Birth Certificate would be an acceptable form of ID anywhere in Trinidad???

It's supposed to be accepted along with the ID card.

http://www.mowt.gov.tt/Divisions/Transport-Division/Services/Drivers-Permits

*Applicants must provide two forms of ID (Birth Certificate, Identification Card or only Passport )

Which LO was that?

Applying for a Provisional Driving Permit

The following items are required for lawful application of a provisional driving permit within Trinidad & Tobago:

One (1) form of national identification – Electoral Identification Card and Birth Certificate together or solely a valid Passport

Four (4) passport size photographs with green background (full frontal view of the face ears in viewing). The photographs of the applicant should not be taken more than six (6) months before the date of the submission of the application.

I got my License before I got my ID Card. I didn't get my 1st passport till my 20s so I got my license without having any form of photo ID. I don't remember there being any issues back then (late 1990s)

Guess they have changed up the processes

That process still gets you a passport.

well, you thought wrong. a birth cert cannot & does not fulfill the function of an ID document. Put 15 Afro trini men of approximately the same age and complexion in a line, and give a random stranger their birth certificates & have said stranger match the bc to the person.

Birth certificates were never a form of ID, they are for you to present as evidence of who you are, when making an application for an ID document. As such, the only place you can really present a birth cert by itself to get a national ID would be at the EBC

Because children can and or travel and will need a passport to do so, thus parents/guardians can apply for a passport for a minor child under their care. The mother & father/guardian presents their ID's & the childs birth cert & whatever other relevant documents, and both identify said minor child as theirs as evidenced by the names listed on the birth cert./relative documents

Serious? I remember I HAD to get my passport in order to get my DP because they wanted TWO forms of photo ID. Both in Ptown, then Chaguanas office. circa 2002/2003

i think you can get DP with ID card and birth certificate

the funny thing is, it have ways around all these things

i think if you dont have an ID card or passport, you can go to a JP and let a parent or someone who has known you for a long time do a statutory declaration saying they know that you is you, and they know you since birth or a long time....

the lower level staff will deny it and say hard luck, when you talk to the most senior person there they will allow it but you hadda get on like a jackass to talk to that person. so most people will back down

My 1st ID card was 1998 - 2008
My 1st issuance of license was 1998 - 2001.

My application for the ID card was in but I hadn't yet received the physical copy of the card when I went in to apply for the learners.
Not sure how the time line is now but for those that remember the actual ID Card took months to get from when you went in.

Also I had actually left everything in the hands of the driving school instructor so maybe they had their means of getting things done.

The ultrasound has to have the coat of arms on it.
