ST. VINCENT’S DANGEROUS WATER EMERGENCY

By Demion McTair. Updated 6:46 a.m., Saturday, April 10, 2021, Atlantic Standard Time (GMT-4).

The Central Water and Sewage Authority – CWSA said Saturday that “we we are in the middle of an emergency with heavy ash fall everywhere, including at its intakes”.

“Presently, no water can be extracted from the rivers,” the state agency posted on Facebook.

The CWSA said it is strongly advising the general public against using either your stored water supply or the pipe borne supply for anything other than drinking or cooking at this time.

The use of hoses is strictly prohibited at this time.

The CWSA will provide further updates this morning on its water re-opening and rationing plans, the agency said.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines is covered in ash from the explosively erupting La Soufriere volcano.

TT Weather Centre has an excellent analysis on this on their page . Based on wind patterns at low and mid heights and expected atmospheric pressure over the next week the answer is no.

Thanks, also why is the ash blowing eastward? Why aren't the north east trade winds blowing it south westward?

Low level winds are blowing westward.
Upper level winds are blowing eastward.

BREAKING; #Barbados Ashfall has turned day into pitch dark night. The island is actually 100 miles away from St. Vincent and #LaSoufriere #volcano

These photos were shot by Rashad Braithwaite @3:30pm in ST Lucy Barbados.

Visibility is now 3km at the Bridgetown/Adams International Airport Barbados as Volcano Ash affects the island.
