Saw a video on social media with a woman in Barbados showing the level of clogging in her gutters due to the ash washing down with the rain fall. It's like wet beach sand consistency and filled the gutters.

sMASH wrote:how can u justify sending people who might be carrying covid to other places and infect that population?

unless they can set up a refugee camp where access in and out is limited, its the respectful ting to do for the welcoming country.
cyar save the peopel from volcano and den dead from covid.

The thing is what are they going to do about ppl who can't get it like ppl with allergies or better yet children who the vaccines aren't approved for?
Also they should be tested and quarantined as the vaccine doesn't help if u are already infected. Even within the first 2 weeks of some vaccines u have virtually 0 immunity and could get infected. So other protocols are going to be needed like masks, social distancing if possible

set up isolation sites for the evacuees with limited access. thats all im saying. covid is real, the volcano is expected to remain at this level of activity, which is manageable.

if i managing a country, i will not bring in people that can potentially kill my own citizens. my desire to help u will not outweigh my mandate to safe guard my own citizens.

The following is from Camillo Gonsalves.

Greetings Comrades. An update:
Explosive events are ongoing. The island is covered in ash, from a dusting/few inches in the south to many feet in the north.

The scientists' predictions were very accurate, and we managed to get the majority of the people out of the danger zone before the first explosion. Of course, some people chose to stay and only decided to leave once explosions were underway.

The immediate evacuation was somewhat chaotic, but largely successful.
Conditions in the shelters are very uneven. Some are adequate, others less so. We were probably two weeks too slow in acquiring additional cots, so a few thousand cots are still in Miami awaiting clearance to fly down (ash has closed airspace) as such, many people are sleeping on the floor. That situation is slowly being resolved with donations and makeshift solutions.

We believe that about 20,000 people will be internally displaced for up to 3 or 4 months. Historically, the volcano keeps going intermittently for a couple months.

So far, Infrastructural damage is not as bad as feared. Not a great deal of lava flow in the direction of villages, just ash and rocks. A number of homes have been destroyed, under the weight of ash or reported small fires ignited by hot projectiles. Minor damage by rocks ejected from the volcano. However most crops on island will be lost, and untold livestock.

The big immediate challenge challenge is the comfort, care and safety of evacuees. COVID is a huge underlying threat given the conditions in which people are housed. Other islands are offering accommodations but requiring vaccination first. Most people in the rural north have been vaccine skeptical. This will complicate matters tremendously, and likely lead to big outbreaks.

Tremendous volunteerism and solidarity across SVG. Many people are helping in myriad ways.

Immediate needs are water, bedding, respiratory equipment and supplies, and sanitary products for babies/elderly/women.

Thank you for your continued concern and solidarity.

they say on TTWC that the ash reach Grenada itself today.

on the plus side, that ash supposed to be very good for the soil

Met Service: Volcano ash particles might reach Trinidad and Tobago in two daysANDREW GIOANNETTI 2 HRS AGO

The view from the Belmont observatory in St Vincent as the eruption of the La Soufriere volcano continues. The volcano is hidden by the ashfall and deposits can be seen on surrounding vegetation and houses. - THE UWI SEISMIC RESEARCH CENTRE

THE Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) says there is a likelihood of ash particles from the La Soufriere volcano in St Vincent reaching Trinidad and Tobago by Thursday.

In an update, the Met Office said, "The wind regime is changing and the plume is migrating to the east of our islands, but in the upper layers of the atmosphere.

"The probability of ashfall is then still low (20 per cent) but there can be the presence of very fine ash particles within the next 36 to 48 hours in Trinidad and Tobago.

"This ash," it added, "may not be highly discernible as there is still a moderate concentration of Sahara dust in our atmosphere.

There is a 20 per cent chance of its reaching TT by midday on Thursday and the Met Service saidprecautionary measures should be taken by the relevant stakeholders and people with health concerns.

It said it continues to closely monitor the ash's activity and any related weather phenomena which may affect TT.
