Blackberry to release 5G phone in 2021

Blackberry is working on new 5G-ready smartphones.
The new Blackberry 5G phones will be launched later this year.

Blackberry has revealed its launch plans for the new 5G phones in 2021. The announcement was made by OnwardMobility - the company which had acquired the license to sell Blackberry phones towards the end of last year. At the time, it had announced some ambitious plans for the iconic brand's reboot, and now, it has revealed more details about the phones and the expected timeline for the launch.

Blackberry's new owner, OnwardMobility, is a US-based company that was founded in 2008. As mentioned above, it took over Blackberry in 2020 after the company ended its partnership with TCL in August last year.

No mention of OS, so I assume they going back with proprietary OS or if they're smart, Android.

They had a BB marketplace for their playbook and it was absolute sheit

Classic BlackBerry phones stop working today

(CNN)You can no longer use that old BlackBerry phone sitting at the bottom of your drawer somewhere.
On Tuesday, the company will stop running support for its classic devices running BlackBerry 10, 7.1 OS and earlier. This means all of its older devices not running on Android software will no longer be able to use data, send text messages, access the internet or make calls, even to 911.
While most mobile users have moved on from BlackBerry -- the last version of its operating system launched in 2013 -- the decision to discontinue support for its phones represents the end of what was once considered bleeding-edge technology.

The company originally announced the news in September 2020 as part of its efforts to focus on providing security software and services to enterprises and governments around the world under the name BlackBerry Limited.

^ Guess BB trying to cover themselves should there be issues as devices won't receive updates.

These devices will lack the ability to receive over the air provisioning updates and as such, this functionality will no longer be expected to reliably function, including for data, phone calls, SMS and 9-1-1 functionality.

so its not that it will suddenly stop working (the calls at least). just not reliably work. the BB internet service might stop as it depends on the BB servers.
