Yeah boy... was doing some tiling in the yard and had the phone inside. Really went in the road to see if rain looking like it will fall to pull plastic when I see it.

Green sky can mean imminent tornado formation and hail. It's a telltale warning that people in USA learn to identify within Tornado Alley.

Look at those pictures above again.

Just saw a pic of a funnel formation in barbados. So I think this is a new threat we should be mindful off. What are the things we should do in the event of a serious one touching down?

Nothing. A tornado is a completely destructive event for what is in its path.
Effect of Global Warming hitting all of us.

https://www.spc.noaa.gov/faq/tornado/f-scale.html

This is a mere F0 event:

i wouldn't say nothing. if u are in your house and can't get out away from it then get to the strongest part of your house, perhaps your bathroom. of course if your house is a shack then in that case is salt

Agreed, but the houses in the US for instance, alot of those are not brick walls like trinidad. It's a board like material. A tornado can destroy those easily. Can our concrete houses withstand a tornado?(excluding the roof, that will definitely be destroyed.)

Well the brick walls may still be standing, but there is still going to be devastating destruction to the building. Unless a structure was purposely built like a bomb shelter dome to withstand a tornado, there is no chance. Maybe if you have a 4 inch concrete floor above you and you're living downstairs, but the winds will still wreck havoc.

"Strong, sturdy brick or stone buildings will protect me from a tornado."

MYTH: While such buildings will provide more protection in a tornado than a mobile home or
timber frame structure, the winds of a tornado can easily launch a 2x4 through a brick wall, and can
cause even the sturdiest of buildings to experience roof or wall failure.

the winds is not the problem with tornadoes. the objects that the winds carry, is the problem. our lil clay block walls should stand up to the winds. once the roofs anchored properly, those should remain mostly in tact. but it have pics of 2x4 driven into tree trunks. lil clay blocks will not stand up to debris like that.

My situation exactly, where I live downstairs and have a concrete decking. So my main worries should be windows/doors being blown in

Shouldn’t we be building for Hurricane standards ? Which should withstand a tornado which while very violent is over shorter period ?

Bros who been keeping track of hurricane season: is it that I haven't been keeping track or have this season's hurricanes been hitting the US exclusively? Has any Caribbean island been affected?

This year is different in that we ran out of storm names but there is only one I know of that reached any kind of intense strength. But its not over yet.... October/November/December does usually have one major flood... I waiting to see lol

Yea I know they deliver peak higher speeds but hurricanes can be slightly lower but sustained over hours. If you build with hurricanes in mind you relatively safe.

I disagree, a hurricane cannot pick up objects and throw them miles away... a tornado can, probably because of the way in which the wind operates. The main threat of a hurricane is flooding while the main threat of a tornado is the wind

I have lived through both. Tornadoes can have higher wind speeds and they do occur much more frequently (about 1,000 times per year in the US). But if a tornado were to touch down, it may do little damage, if any, because of the path and the typically short duration of the touch down event. That is not the case for hurricanes where wind and rain are threats, along with flooding in low-lying areas.

Structures that meet the hurricane building standards will not necessarily survive a tornado but it would help to limit damage in case of a nearby touch down.

A very significant portion of new structures built in the US "Hurricane Alley" still do not meet tornado survivability guidelines - it's simply too expensive. Instead, you build a storm shelter because it is likely to be the only thing that will survive.

Beginning today (Thursday), periods of showers and thunderstorms are forecast to affect T&T going into the weekend and next week.

Street/flash flooding, gusty winds (up to and in excess of 60 KM/H) are possible, particularly on Saturday!
