Internet / DNS issues in Trinidad?

Postby st7 » December 7th, 2020, 9:17 am

I'm having issues connecting to office 365 services, even netflix. some sites seem to be working and I heard that it's affecting all ISPs.

Anyone has info?

It’s affecting multiple ISPs. May be a sub-sea fibre break as reports of outages up the islands as well including Barbados.

FYI, you can connect with a VPN to get the sites working again

TEST PC:: Remote NDIS not connected

ME: "sporadic" - occurring at irregular intervals or only in a few places; scattered or isolated.
Data through the cable connection will be sporadic.

It's not just consumer internet. Businesses are impacted, LINX /CC transactions are down also.
Seems as though a critical dependency on a SPOF was revealed.

Certainly not, refer to your broadband contract.

Via CNC3

***Full-service restoration by midday***

Broadband customers should have their services fully restored by midday, while some should have already noticed an improvement in connectivity, a well-placed source told Guardian Media.

Contrary to initial reports from the service providers, the ‘failure’ occurred on land and not with the underwater fibre cables. This means that the service providers were able to isolate and resolve the problem much faster that originally stated, meaning “internet connectivity should be restored to everyone by midday,” the source confirmed.

Some customers should have already experienced restored service.
The issue was reported early this morning on the international cable connection which connects Trinidad and Tobago to the rest of the world via Curacao. All major providers were affected including TSTT, Digicel and Flow.
