Still can't believe more than 100 elected Republicans and something like 17 Republican attorneys general signed on to that crap case? What happening to that party? And how could people working in the capacity of AG not see how effed that case was from the start?

Some House Republicans plan last ditch challenge to election results during Electoral College tally

Several Trump allies, led by Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.), plan to challenge the election results on Jan. 6, when Congress convenes to officially tally the votes from the Electoral College and certify Joe Biden as the president-elect.

Why it matters: Trump has refused to concede the election and has repeated false allegations of mass voter fraud while losing dozens of court cases. The challenges Brooks plans to bring up in Congress are extremely unlikely to change the outcome, but they will be another high profile effort on the part of some Republicans to invalidate millions of votes to overturn the election.

What they're saying: “We have a superior role under the Constitution than the Supreme Court does, than any federal court judge does, than any state court judge does,” Brooks told the New York Times. “What we say, goes. That’s the final verdict.”

How it works: Brooks told the Times he plans on challenging the electors in Arizona, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Georgia and Wisconsin.

In order for an objection to get a debate, he will need at least one senator to join him. It's not clear so far that any senators will object.

If an objection is filed, each Chamber would have to debate for two hours. For electors to be tossed, the Democratic-controlled House and the Republican-controlled Senate would have to agree.

Several Senate Republicans, like Mitt Romney and Susan Collins, have said they will not vote to overturn the results of the election.

Worth noting: House Democrats challenged Republican victories in the Electoral College in 2001, 2005 and 2017. But those voters were essentially in protest, with their party's nominee already conceding the election.

Awkward: All eyes will be on Vice President Mike Pence, who will be in charge of counting the Electoral College votes and overseeing any objections.

The bottom line: Any objection to the Electoral College count may delay things, but it won't change the winner of the election.

Georgia’s 16 electors officially cast ballots for Joe Biden, Kamala Harris

December 14, 2020 at 12:40 pm EST

By WSBTV.com News Staff

The Electoral College will take another a step toward making the 2020 election results official. On Monday, 538 electors will meet in their respective state capitols and cast their votes.

The results from the Nov. 3 general election had Joe Biden getting 306 electoral votes while Donald Trump got 232. The votes cast Monday will be formally counted during a joint session of Congress on Jan. 6.

Channel 2′s Richard Elliot is at the Georgia State Capitol, where Georgia’s 16 electors submitted their vote officially Monday afternoon for President-elect Joe Biden.

Elliot learned Georgia Republicans are meeting at the Capitol to select their own slate of Donald Trump electors to send to Washington. Republicans have filed several lawsuits to overturn the election results in Georgia, but those have been dismissed.

Biden formally clinches Electoral College victory with California’s 55 votes

From CNN's Marshall Cohen and Ethan Cohen

President-elect Joe Biden has received enough electoral votes to officially clinch the presidency, a major milestone that he reached when California’s electors awarded him the state’s 55 electoral votes at their meeting Monday in Sacramento.

CNN projected five weeks ago that Biden would win the White House, but his victory was formalized Monday after presidential electors gathered in statehouses across the country as part of the Constitutional process to officially elect a President.

This development is a crushing blow to President Trump’s controversial and unprecedented attempts to block Biden's victory in the Electoral College by filing longshot lawsuits and pressuring lawmakers in battleground states to overturn millions of legal votes.

In California, Biden won more than 63% of the statewide vote, while Trump earned about 34%.

Democrats have won California’s electoral votes every cycle since 1992. The state voted for Republicans in the six presidential elections before that.

Republican electors in four states said on Dec. 14 that they would cast their procedural votes for President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence, the latest update contesting the results of the 2020 election.

Republican electors in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, Arizona all said they voted for Trump. It comes as their states formally appointed Democratic electors who voted for Democrat Joe Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.).

In Michigan, two separate slates of electors were cast: 16 for Trump and 16 for Biden.

“Sending more than one slate of electors is not unheard of,” said Meshawn Maddock, Michigan Republican at-large national elector in an emailed release. “It’s our duty to the people of Michigan and to the U.S. Constitution to send another slate of electors if the election is in controversy or dispute—and clearly it is.”

The Pennsylvania GOP said in a news release that electors met in Harrisburg to “cast a conditional vote” for Trump and Pence “at the request of the Trump campaign.” Their vote comes as Democratic electors cast their Electoral College votes for Biden and Harris.

The Pennsylvania GOP cited the 1960 presidential election between Richard Nixon and John F. Kennedy, who would become the eventual winner.

It will be even harder now for Trump to turn things around but still not impossible. I'm actually surprised on how long it takes to confirm a President. Another set of confirmation is on January 6th at Congress :?

In other news... things might get spicy over the next month.

*yawn*

First:

Four states. Four challenges. Four different senators. Four different congressmen. Four two hour debates. Four Congressional votes. Four times that the House and Senate would need to agree seperately to invalidate a state's electoral slate.

Then:

The federal court cases brought by four states regarding Congressional disenfranchisement of voters and the Constitutional tenet of State's sovereignty.

And then:

Congress will be required to decide that the candidate with still fewer electoral votes should prevail.

And if that were not enough:

Support would be required from some states whose legislatures filed amicus briefs in opposition of this action.

Newsmax airs 2-minute video admitting it has 'no evidence' of outlandish fraud claims against 2 voting-machine companies

Newsmax on Monday aired a nearly two-minute video ticking through items it had "not reported as true" related to President Donald Trump's unsubstantiated election-fraud theories.

Fox News also aired clarifications on several shows over the weekend.

Newsmax, Fox News, and One America News Network could face defamation lawsuits from a pair of voting-system companies, The New York Times reported.

The USA today has found itself in place which raises questions about its moral authority to speak about democracy and its abhorrence of totalitarian regimes.
A really dark under-belly has risen to the surface and the UNITED in the country's name seems ill placed.
