a saturday, not weekday (so no day off from work), and in a pandemic so not much can take place, even if Keith ease a lil restrictions - won't be much as covid would still be here

Wonder if the Head Ravaana will ease up Divali related product prices as his predecessor did?

Calling people Ravaanas is no different than when they go on facebook with the similar derogatory statements about Hindus and worshipping the devil, etc. Both are stupendously ignorant and discredits our entire culture on all sides, furthers hate, fear and acrimony. Some people here are reading this and can infer that they are being likened to such fairy tale depictions of evil. Stop it. I doubt that is what the announcement of this thread was about anyway.

Holiday on a Saturday is good, imo. Can sleep in late after all the work and clean up.

These days I more stressed out about Divali. Family spending all day in the kitchen, making more food than anybody can eat and most of it not too healthy. Everybody giving children Starlite and Fun snap, which not really safe for small children. Deyas are a fire hazard in a household with children. It's too much work in one day.

and to boot, adult idiots with firecrackers in the night. Terrifying small children, newborns and pets, what fun!

TBH, I like the navaratri (nine nights) period better. More emphasis on fasting, self control, reflection. Less on the 'celebration' part.

chive $80
celery $80
sweet pepper$14
carrot $6
baigan $7
cabbage$8
bodi $8
ochro 3 for$1
tomatoes $14
lettuce $10

Trend may continue into the other season.
Everyone want to make an extra dollar or make up for lost earnings.

Yea last week's vegetable prices were a shock. I thought it would have still remained normalish till a little closer to Divali.

Compounding things is that in an effort to not go market I buying from one of those stalls who are already expensive to start with. May just need to get my lazy tail off the bed early and make it to market around 5.30am before the crowds start.

Might be cheaper to watch other folks lights this year.

Debe's prices are still pretty good, their breakfast/food offerings are a little less now but still good.

Overall less stalls too but you have the core stuff.
