^^

Again the Gov't plan w.r.t to laptops have gone "hay wire".

The reason for the removal of tax on computers was for benefit of STUDENTS .

It should of been clear that ONLY STUDENTS should receive this tax treatment or tax exemption .

Now as you see people buying 6 computers and running

Like if they get free cheese

But the cheese will be resold for profit and again the Gov't has failed

prices have dropped all over the place, people can easily order their own laptops

those who prefer not to order and want to deal with someone locally, can walk into a store and buy and off course pay the price for that service.

If it is that prices have dropped, that's good, however, are those who the law was intended for benefitting from said law?

The poverty line families who could not afford a laptop before probably still cannot afford it.

The people who put the tax there in 2016 and now half removed it for 3 months couldn't foresee this effect on the population/didn't think it through? So only particular people must benefit from a removal of a tax? Why they didn't write that in the amendment then?

said families under poverty line likely dont have credit card and online access to order laptop/tablet themselves either
so they still gonna buy localy if they do and pay a marked up price.

Crooks will be crooks regardless, most of the PC sales companies raising prices every quarter since 2016. Chromebooks for 159 USD selling normel for 3000 TTD. They not going to drop the price by more than a couple hundred.
Consumers already conditioned.

Indidvual sellers being nicer, facebook marketplace has good deals on Fire tablets, no warranty obv.

the whole blasted world going E. what is the point of fighting down a small 3rd world little county when ur encouraging most every body to go e by reduced taxes?

if a man get a 5% reduced price on a laptop, he might let that go to his child or outside child. a small business buy a set and reselling, if their prices good, that would pass on to the customer, who might just be other children.

the more people we have online would tend to get more services, private and public, tailored for online too. making this move smother and efficient.... that line up the ministers caused people to go for grants over the months, that should be the bare minimum people. the vast majority of peopel should have been online. in fact the payments shoudl have gone direct deposit... another e system.

if u have a govt and a public more accustomed to operating E, most tings would go e...

imagine if most people ttec bill were paid online, and they just use a courier service to deliver the bulbs to the customers, based on their database. but we hadda go and pay the bill, and then join another line to get the bulb. while e customers have to make an appointment... whats the point of making and appointment, to line up in the sun, in covid, and u paid online?

Could it be that the lack of electronic/online portals is the result of the fact that a vast majority of the population just can't handle it, be it because of poverty/financial reasons or on account of low literacy rates?

Deep down the government knows this and as such just couldn't be bothered, as the even if it were introduced the lack of adoption would render it not very feasible?

Estonia is a great example of this....but they started in 1994...and began a systematic march.
Every 5 years we spasm like we have Tourette’s and change policy.

We should just do what they did ASAP.

ICT policy is controlled by Cable and Wireless.

Estonia has a history of leadership in Computer Science education and research during the days of the Soviet Union.

As a small Baltic nation their economy has a large component of education and services. Estonia continues to push distance learning and e-commerce as a way to provide off-shore revenue. With Germany and Scandinavia close neighbors and customers.

In addition, social progressiveness is common and embraced in the region. Sweden is 80% cashless for all purchases. German industrial CEOs are typically Doctors of Engineering. Norway leads Europe in distance learning. Finland is a world leader in Telecommunications equipment design.

The local sentiment may be that it is the responsibility of government to bring about social change but historically it's the other way around.

If we bring GOVT online.....That in itself would take us far.

As it is govt and it’s culture suppresses private sector innovation and investment.

If govt stepped off and became a facilitator and not a preventer ...things will happen.

So we need to start from where we are....deal with what we are/have and evolve.

Delay in online payment for passports because the public lacks debit and credit cards.I do not believe that is a government issue to resolve.

Passport misery to end: New system introduced

The minister said he looks forward to total digitisation in "the near future", where all services will be available online with the implementation of the Track and Trace Service.

Depending on the success of the current new system, the Immigration Division will look to implement an online system, he said.

"We're using this as the first phase and then we'll move towards application by mail, by offering it to persons over 60 years old because they don't have to pay for their passports," Young said, as he noted that among the challenges facing a full online service was the issue of e-payment.

The Minister had earlier stated that the Division receives between 600 to 800 applications for passports, daily.
